Re: Steve Martin Signed mandolin on Ebay

Only five hours to go! Better grab it before it goes away! Forever!

I mean, have you seen this thing? It's as pretty as a sunset!

For the record, I tried to look for a way to report this...
  4. Re: How many tunes is too much to start with?

    Keep in mind some things:

    1. You can have the music sheet in front of you. Don't worry about pure memorization right now. It'll come in time as you practice.
    2. What you REALLY want are songs...
  5. Re: Found this little beauty: Electric Mandobass

We considered that too, and it's a viable option.

Guess it comes down to wanting to get the paired string sound, though. it just sounds slightly deeper than a single string.

    Not to mention, I...

    Got it in.

So, Botany (my wife) is playing with it. She seems to love it.

overall, good construction, with the note that the low bass string pair are prone to beat each other into a buzzing...
  7. Re: Found this little beauty: Electric Mandobass

Horny angel is a Meatloaf ref.

And I’m not sure, but normally on a bass, low chords tend to get muddy. His demo didn’t do that. I’m wondering if the dual paired strings is the reason.

    We’ll...

Re: Loar LM-520...Is this a good price?

    Good price.

    $599 for the mando.
    $50-$100 for a case.
    $100-$150 for a good setup.

If the mandolin is setup (and it likely is for that model) then you're set.

Just keep in mind, might want...

If I knew, it wouldn't be an "if". It's be a "when".
  11. Re: Found this little beauty: Electric Mandobass

GG DD AA EE two octaves down.

Main reason we wanted it was due to it being the same overall fingering as a mandolin.

While the kinetic memory will take some adjusting, it still offers a point...
  12. Re: Found this little beauty: Electric Mandobass

    Heard him play it.

It has a voice like a horny angel. And as far as I could see, he was getting solid chords out of it on the included video. I figure it might have something to do with the...

Re: Received my frist mandolin, now what?

Strumming chords to guide tempo and tone is a useful skill, but that...

Re: Is a Rogue a mistake for a beginner?

I think the problem is threefold.

    1. It’s not that a cheap mandolin CAN’T be good, it’s that it tends to take trying several to find one that isn’t bad.
    2. The neck on the really cheap ones can’t...

Re: So, bought a used Rogue... Huh...

Nope. Oiled them for the moment. If they stay in tune and don't start getting rough. Then they get replaced.

So, bought a used Rogue... Huh...

I was walking though Guitar Center, waiting for my lunch to get finished being made next door, and walked past a Rogue sitting on a stand for $50. Used.

Yeah, started doing that to. Worse, it makes me have to expand my music selection.

Most bands do NOT have to collect as much performance music as I do not to bore people. Worse, you have to...
