Re: Pachelbel's Canon for 3 Mandostrats

I put the Almuse pickup in, but probably the stock pickups also have a clear chime bell like tone characteristic of single coils.
The cleanness was very much intentional, it's easy to get sloppy...

Re: Pachelbel's Canon for 3 Mandostrats

The key for me to get the trills is use a 4 string. I have the 8 string Fender, but it's much harder to play trills, and play clean. Electric guitar has been my main instrument, so transitioning to 4...
  3. Re: Versatile Fender Mandostrat playing Vivaldi violin parts

    Thanks very much for listening.
My thinking was to make all the parts clearly heard as separate instrumentation.
It was fun to do, some parts (the solos) took time to learn, other parts like the...

Re: Pachelbel's Canon for 3 Mandostrats

    Thanks for the feedback.
Maybe some EQ would help the piercing quality. I think the high register of the mandolin coupled with the strong attack can fatigue the ears pretty quickly.
    Next time I...

    Re: Comparing 3 Mandos

    3 - Thin and delicate/detailed top end
    1 - 1 and 2 are very similar
    2 - Duller tubbier sounding

Listening through iphone headset, so probably missing some detail

    Re: Distressing my mandolin

Sunlight will yellow lacquer if it's lacquered.

But my opinion is to keep it new looking as possible and distress it by playing it as much as possible.

    Re: Classical Music Song Book

    Great thread, with great answers.
I'm a guitarist who uses Cakewalk Sonar multitracking software. It can print sheet music from midi files and provide tablature as well.
The plus is you can play...

    I just picked up this one;

    Re: .012 - .042 strings for a MANDOCELLO??

    Eastwood's Warren Ellis Baritone tenor with 26" scale uses these guages;

    Strings: 0.62, 0.40, 0.26(w), 0.16(p) tuned CGDA, C below normal low E on guitar.

    Same tuning as a mandocello.

Re: Bach Fugue from Sonata in G Minor TAB

I found an error trying to play through it; measure five, the first b natural note is actually supposed to be a b flat.

That kind of stopped me in my tracks and I didn't check for other errors.

  20. Re: via buying online: Mando Strat or Mandostang???

I bought a Fender Mandostrat 4. Loved it and promptly bought a Mandostrat 8.
I swapped out the bridges for the 4 way Moongazer bridges, and swapped in the Almuse pickups.
    Strobe tuner indicates it...

Re: Calling all Warren Ellis Tenor Owners

I'm curious about this instrument too. Does it come tuned to viola/mandola tuning?
Seems like the scale is long and the strings might be tight for this tuning, unless the strings are pretty light.

Re: Pinky Question from a Guitarist

I come from 40 years of guitar.
I just learned Pachelbel's Canon (may post a multitrack recording).
I ended up using 1 finger per fret, mostly, with lots of pinkie action, and switched to extended...

    This is awesome.
Would it be correct to guess that the fingerings are mostly or completely identical to what a violinist would play?

  25. Re: Recommendations: 4 string Solidbody Mandola and Mandocello

I think maybe a Eastwood tenor might fit the bill for mandola and Eastwood tenor baritone for mandocello.

Not too sold on the Airline shape, and after seeing the Rukavina, not all that hot on...
