Re: Grace Design BiX vs. Red Eye

Same with my K&K equipped guitars and mandolin when using the RedEye: treble down on mando, treble up on guitar. When using the Grace Felix I leave the treble nearly flat on both instruments. But...

    ToneDexter on a F5 mandolin

    Hi picking fellows,

for several months now I work with the ToneDexter, creating wave maps for several stringed instruments (mandolin, guitar, dobro, Weissenborn, bouzouki) and trying them out on...

    Re: Sennheiser ME64 + K6 powering module

Hey, thanks, great to know there is one out there that will work as fine as a KM85 does. I too use a KM85 and love it, but I have friends and bandmates who would love to own one - expensive and hard...

Re: Amplify my gibson f5 master model

    Hey, very interesting !
What type of mando do you build right now ? Which placement of the Dazzos would you go for ?
In my comparison mentioned above I fixed it with beeswax (for temporally use,...

Re: Amplify my gibson f5 master model

Which of the Schertler line do you use ?
Anyway, a decent preamp could help (Schertler Dyn M, Schertler yellow ...)

To be true, there is no pickup that can reproduce the true acoustic sound of...

    Re: Solo Performance Gear

Ill bring Elite Acoustics D6-8 and Bose S1 to the table. I really like both and a Bose tower, but my number one is QSC K8.2 combined with a mixer.

Re: Best live gig setup for mandolin/guitar

Yes, if money does not matter, the Grace Felix is wonderful. I love mine.

A simple but effectfull solution and nicely priced is the BOSS LS-2 pedal. You can sum up to three instruments to one...

Re: mandolin pickup comparison: K&K vs. Dazzo

Hey, that is one clever solution with tape/glue.
And you are right: the sound would be much different using beeswax on the K&K and tape on the Dazzo .
    Isn't it a rabbit hole ?

Re: mandolin pickup comparison: K&K vs. Dazzo

Yes, the Dazzos are the red triangles on the top of my mandolin.
I tried the Schertler years ago and could not find a sound I liked. Looks like the problem is me or my signal chain, because many...

Re: Best live gig setup for mandolin/guitar

Yes, RedEye Twin can be a great solution: You feed your amp/ personal monitor using the FX send of the Redeye and connect the XLR out of the RedEye with the PA/mixer.

Re: mandolin pickup comparison: K&K vs. Dazzo

    Hi Greg,
I tried the Dazzo mounted on the top using beeswax. Placement was right behind the bridge. The sound was awesome, and me and my bandmates could not believe that there was no mic involved....

Re: mandolin pickup comparison: K&K vs. Dazzo

Yes, I heard nothing but great reviews about their preamps. I'm already on their waiting list for a customized version of their two-channel floor pedal pre. Hoping to have it in autumn.
  13. Re: Tonedexter wavemaps for mando and mic position...

I tried several fine condenser mics and noticed their differences in creating a wave map are not as important as mic position. But even much more important for a wave map that I really liked was...

Re: mandolin pickup comparison: K&K vs. Dazzo

Hey, thanks for chiming in with some serious aspects:
Both pickups are mounted in the same place: K&K inside with a double layer of adhesive like recommended by the manufacturer, Dazzo on the...

Re: mandolin pickup comparison: K&K vs. Dazzo

Hey, thanks for listening and contributing. The K&K indeed sounds great after tweaking some high mids and treble. I was really happy with during the past years. Just thought I give the Dazzo a try....

It is possible if you use a dedicated blender to feed the mic with phantom power as desribed above. Or you find a box for that special purpose. Years ago I had a technician build me one. Still have...

    Re: K&K Silver Bullet

Same as in a K&K trinity system: Solder it to the stereo jack (sleeve), use a TRS cable for connecting it to dedicated preamp/blender (K&K trinity or else). Don't solder it to a XLR and don't plug it...

    Re: Mandolin Recording Mic Setup

    Two more suggestions:
    1. One M5 to the upper f-hole, one M5 to the lower f-hole. Mind phasing.
    2. Ribbon to the lower f-hole (check distance for right amount of "woof", NT1 places where neck joins...

Re: Question about Acoustic Amps and PreAmps

  23. Re: Grace Design BiX Acoustic Instrument Preamp

+1 for BrIck: I took an extensive A/B comparison with my Collings MF 5 mandolin today:

    2. Pickup (K&K) through Tone Dexter (I own one...
  24. Re: mic comparison: five small condenser microphones / one ribbon

    mandobajo, thank you very much.

I could do a comparison with them to show how...
