Another vote for Blueridge. They are the best bang for the buck out there IMO. i got a 00 size and its very comfortable to play and still as loud as anyone else at the jam.

Being a banjo player, I have tended to learn most of my lead breaks in the keys of G or C and then just capo to fit whatever key the singer/fiddler wants to do the song in.
