    Re: Rubner Tuners

    Jim -

I was a little nervous about that myself. I emailed Rubner and also spoke with Kent on the phone. I also spoke with Oliver on the phone and via email.

They DID drop right in. The only...

Re: Dark glue in in center seam

dark seam line may be just thick layer of (semi)transparent glue in gap between two pieces of wood. You cannot bleach that. Well joined pieces should show no glue line at all and standard wood glues...
  4. Re: Duff A style mandolins, like to hear owner thoughts, some ?

    Thanks C.
I saw that, love the aesthetic of his work. That has a really wide neck unless it's a mistype.
I've got a very certain tone I'm after and so far Duff and RW , and certain Gibsons are...

Re: New Player at age 63

Hi Mike. I'm 73 and have been playing guitar for 50-some years, and mandolin for about 10. Here's my advice, and of course, others may feel differently:
    1. If at all possible, go to a shop or shops...

Incoming to TME soon. Two-point Girouard. I believe there are two headed there.
  8. Re: Duff A style mandolins, like to hear owner thoughts, some ?

There have been a lot of good mandolins made in the last 10 years.
It's a lot different from the old days when there wasn't very much to choose from.
Even with current inventory shortages, I'm sure...

Re: Blueridge BR40T or Ibanez AVT1?

Chiming back in here with some further observations on these two tenors, which I've been playing daily for the past couple of weeks (I bought dulcillini's Ibanez for my son). The Blueridge is a more...

Re: Building the carved top Army Navy AN

The construction is done. The back is attached, and the fret board is glued in place. The steel rod helps to keep the fret board flat while the glue dries. I'll start applying the finish in a few...
  11. Re: Sourcing Custom Trapeze Tailpieces (Archtop Guitar Style)

I'm asking for some pretty specific hardware that doesn't exist and have a vision in my head, so I'm more than happy to do some scouting, they are also on the case.

    Thanks

That's not what he said; he just wants there to be a differentiation between ads from dealers and private sellers. I believe that generally speaking, prices advertised by the former run higher than...

Re: Building the carved top Army Navy AN

In order to get the sides of the neck absolutely flush to the body, I give the neck a concave shape. Also, the concave shape allows me to shave a little of the left or the right in order to set the...

Re: Hey dude, ya forgot the pickups!

Made thousands of pickups with neo magnets and never had issues with strings being pulled out of tune (need damn big N52s to overcome mandolin tension) ;)

Re: Total Newbee looking for info

I have been reading up on the Eastman MD305. Any comments would be appreciated.

Piccolos Music has it for $510 with a bag. Seems like a good price. Has anyone ever dealt with them?

Major differences are cost and appearance; it takes extra work to carve the scroll etc., which is reflected in a higher price for equivalent quality. Sound is not affected (at least that's the...
