    Re: General Mandolin Post

I had a chance to play a Loar signed mandolin. I still sounded like me. For some people chasing the dragon (perfection) pays off. For me (a hobby player) it's just spending money and diminishes MY...

    Re: Weber Bridger - Discontinued?

That Bridger F with the D sound hole sure was gorgeous and a mandolin who's design I lusted after for years early on. TOH may not make it but maybe Bruce would out of his new shop?

I'm glad your injuries weren't worse. I'm very sorry this happened to you. Wishing you a speedy full recovery.

  5. Re: Played a Loar F5 for the first time and met Mike Compton

It's always fun to be able to have hands on time with those special instruments and to have some time with players we admire. You had a hat trick that day!

  6. Re: Splurging on the Best Possible Mandolin Strings

I've often promoted the opinion that the best string and pick combo vary by individual mandolin and player and is subject to change. They are also the cheapest way to change your mandolin's voice...

    Re: Any arguments AGAINST MAS?

I wonder if part of that may lie in how many great builders there are now. Take Andy Statman for example, for the longest time, I would have associated him with his A2Z but now he's on a Kimble (see...

    Re: Any arguments AGAINST MAS?

I have found incredibly talented and capable musicians who obsess over their gear (Dawg, Thile) and those who don't (Monroe). I'm unsure if skill correlates with not being a mando-head. Some folks...

Re: IV "In the White" F5 model

I'm with Mike on that. Finishing is as important as how the plates are graduated and put together. That's a totally different skill set to learn and challenge yourself with.

    For $340 it could be...

I wouldn't drive the extra couple of hours ONLY for the Martin Museum (it's pretty small). If you can arrange in advance the factory tour, then sure.

Re: IV "In the White" F5 model

Well, you don't get to finish the top and back graduations. This is really a kit ready for the big second half which is finishing the instrument. I've not built one (nor have the desire to). It's...

Re: Storage: Case vs Hanging on the Wall

I have had my mandolins on wall hangers for years. Never had one fall. The only thing they get is dusty sometimes. I cover the peg head/tuners with a hat. I play them less when stored in cases.
