I'm diggin' the action guage too! …. Just an observation here, but I noticed you stated your pick is made of a 'flexible' material. I have a 'The Loar' 600 (which I like), but seems barely audible...
Fairly recently I asked this same question … "that seems hard to play, is it?" (can't remember the player or the tune at the moment) but his answer was very motivating ..… "no, it's not hard to play...
Yep... Then find another one that does the same thing for you … and another … and...
First off... my statement was made with tongue firmly planted in cheek, focusing only on your first sentence, (Sorry, couldn't resist). I've only had the opportunity to play one Gil (a phenomenal...
"Who are the Custom Build Luthiers, that can build mandolins that can equal or outshine production models from the big boys?"
Steve Gilchrist …
No offense intended, just a general observation.
I'm with you... dependent upon the type/thickness of hair that's being split, of course.:whistling: It's also astonishing to me that many (myself, previously included) will spend thousands of dollars...
So, after a week or so of some fairly hard playing:
1. I really like the EXP-75's, there is some tone and volume improvement, and they don't seem to be "tarnishing" as quickly where I brush my...
And then there are those with God given talent!! Our guitar player is 15 years old. He began picking up his grandfathers guitars when he was 11 years old. This kid is simply fantastic not only on the...
Just some food for thought … I love my F5G (but it ain't no Gilchrist) ... in many of this type of discussions/ponderings, it seems many are comparing a variety of pac-rim brands/styles against...
:))
Welcome!
Jeff_75 …. I just sent you a PM.
I like PT's just fine, and keep several on hand ... but IMHO they're certainly no where near, "Just like the Blue Chips", in terms of wear, tone, glide or slippage.
Thanks for the replies ... I use the tape as well to mark position as a reference. The saddle wasn't switched on the bridge (I also use painters tape to keep them in position while its off the top)....
So, I've been using D'Addario EJ74s basically forever. A friend gave me a set of D'Addario EXP75's (coated) to try, stating that they made a huge difference on his Sam Bush.
It was time for a...
If I could offer anyone just beginning the mandolin any piece of advise, it would be what I've learned from my own mistakes .... I played guitar for many years and basically knew many chord...
We've done the Coupville, Townsend, Deception Pass, etc. (and will visit again this year)... But will definitely check out Dusty Strings and Conway Muse.
Many Thanks!
Wow...very surprising. We were in Seattle and Whidbey a couple of years ago and saw very few motor vehicle incidents. I've driven in all of the lower 48 and Canada....I would have had Washington WAY...
So, we're headed out to Washington for vacation. Any suggestions for shops or other mandolin related places to visit? We'll be on Whidbey Island but venturing to the mainland often.
I recently picked up a couple of Wegens (TF120 & 140) at a local BG festival...Primarily for the same reason I broke down and purchased my first BC (to have a personal comparison) ... I used the...
You won't be sorry!! I can't count the number of compliments that I've had about mine (sound and appearance) ... Enjoy!!
Those appear to be more uniformed in shape than any "dust bunnies" I've seen... they look more like a cocoon of some sort... Spider maybe...??

I'd really like to hear more ideas for improvement regarding right hand as well. I'm fairly comfortable with almost any song that may come up in a jam, even taking breaks on songs I don't really know...
FWIW .... there's a '91 Bozeman Made Flatiron performer A in the classifieds for $1050.00 ... "OBO" ... I can only attest to a few 'F' model FI's I've played ... but of those I'd be proud to own any...
