Re: is 17" scale adequate for electric OM?

My 5 string emando from Jonathan Mann has an 18.5" scale and, though it isn't floppy, it's loose

I think I was down for 2 months after mine a couple years ago but can't remember for sure.

Re: Has COVID affected your MAS?

I started out collecting banjos & them moved to guitars & then to mandolins  Actually, violin preceded all of them so I s'pose tuning in 5ths was my gateway :mandosmiley:
  8. Re: Northfield F5S consistency (or buying without checking)

Here's hoping for a happy ending to this adventure!
  10. Re: Northfield F5S consistency (or buying without checking)

I bought a flat top OM & Big Mon online & both are spectacular. It's admittedly a small sample size but I'd be confident in Northfield's consistancy

Re: Tone Gard on a Northfield Big Mon

I use a VintageGard on mine. I also don't use my case so fit isn't a concern.
  12. Re: Looking for a Mandola and I need some advice.

I liked the Eastman's I've owned for the price but found them to be a little thin on tone. I haven't played a Sawchyn but I'd prolly go for that or a Flatiron if I had the choice.
  13. Re: I have MAS and check the classified hourly…

Re: Tone-Gard and Big Muddy Jumbo Mandolins

I have a VintageGard on my flat top Beard. Tony didn't think a Gard would fit due to the hips. I tried one of the ones I already had & it fits fine. It's a little off center compared to my others...

Re: Armrest for a Northfield Big Mon

For me, the only difference is the length of the barrels used. I like McClungs so ordered the longer barrels when I bought them. The ones on my Mon are 1 1/16". The trick to buying them online is...

    Re: Strap recommendation for Octave

I had an Eastman OM for a little while with a strap button on the heel & didn't have any problems with neck dive or balance.

    Re: Bandsaw upgrade

I don't have the micro adjust version but I do have the 3 bearing guide on the same setup. I bought a floor model from my local Woodcraft at a good discount & upgraded the guide when I bought it. ...

    Re: Octave Mandolin advice

I'd be wary of that particular comparison unless it's a short scale acoustic guitar.
