  2. Re: Any recommendations for repair on Long Island?

    Yes. Larry Fitzgerald in Wantagh.
A personal friend and expert repair guy.
He worked at "We Buy Guitars", "Mandolin Bros.", and other places you know.
He's worked on all my mandolins. Replaced...

Re: Natural / Blonde Gibson F5s?

I owned the korina topped one for a while. Incredible look, feel, and tone.
Moved it and a couple of others out to fund one better instrument.
I miss the korina one. Really a great instrument.

    Re: Strange plectrum?

To me it looks like a section of a broken pickguard.
Very oddly shaped and, as you say, huge.

Re: Any info on this Gibson?

    Thank you!
I got the F4 part, but the year escaped me. I appreciate the info.
His tech said it was a mandolin, and he told the audience to hold on while he got his mandolin, so I'm going with...

    Any info on this Gibson?

Only one photo, and I have no other info.
Smarter minds than mine here would be able to reason it out, but it is beyond my scope.
Can anything be determined by this photo?210538

Re: Any experience with Gatti mandolins?

Massimo makes an excellent mandolin. Wonderful tone, great value, easy to play, and he is incredibly easy to deal with.

Re: "ping" sound on open E string only

I'm certainly not an expert, but I would try cleaning the nut slot and the bridge slots first. May be accumulated gunk.

Next I would try taking a nut file and lightly - VERY LIGHTLY - running it...
  15. Re: What’s the nicest mandolin you’ve ever seen?

I have an Apitius classic as well. Not a single complaint.

    Re: he's at it again

As a student - and I'd like to think friend as well - of Aaron's, I agree with your view of his playing.

His approach is inspiring. It even gets me to practice more!

    Re: Weber Yellowstone Experts

Just heard back from Bruce and - as expected - he was a wealth of information.

As per Bruce, "It was built with an X braced Sitka spruce top (old Sitka), curly maple back, rim, and neck. Bound...

Re: Humidity control, ay ay ay

    I agree with this.

I remember when no one worried about it, and they'd find Grandpa's 1942 Gibson guitar in the attic or under a bed and no crazy damage was found.

    My belief - based on...

    Re: Weber Yellowstone Experts

    Thanks!

It was listed as a 2005 and the color as Desert Dawn. I have no idea how the store came up with that, probably info from the original owner.

It is a beautiful looking and sounding...
