I bought some new instruments, a mandolin, a viola, a sax, and a flute. I am looking forward to actually being able to play them!!!
I have a guitar background. Learning these instruments is like...
I love it, and got the reference instantly!
An epiphany! I learned some block patterns! Yah!
I discovered Waynes World of Mandolin. He doesn't have a lot of stuff out there but the stuff he has is great, especially related to the mechanics...
Honestly tuning in 4ths still seems more logical to me from a moving diagonally perspective. However with the smaller neck of the mandolin you can easily cover more territory. I think this is were I...
Thanks Dave,
I'm hungry now. I've learned the note placement on the neck but still can't "see" it yet. Still getting the hang of the tuning being in 5ths rather than 4ths. I can play some scales...
Next up, Classical Gas on mandolin!

Hi all,
I needed an excuse to do something more than noodling on my new mandolin so I wrote a tune. The performance is rough in spots and the tune a little repetitive but I think it was a good...
You could host your own Vulcan Pon Farr party!
Would last for 7 years!
For me there is never only one. You should see my harem! ...of guitars I mean! Get your head out of the gutter man! I have 14 of them. One for every mood and 2 for when I'm ticked off!
I only have...
Now that's funny!
Hi Sheila,
I see that happen in the case for obvious reasons but I haven't noticed it on my guitars out of case. It might be happening and I didn't realize it. I just got the md305 as my first...
When I'm gigging, guitar, I always bring a second guitar for back up. Actually I bring a backup amp as well....extra cables, strings, picks, capos, groupies!
I know, it did! Which is great because I was like a kid on Christmas morning waiting for the thing!
And its a traditional blackguard. Some things just can't be improved upon!
I got the mandolin yesterday. I have to say, the Eastman is way more impressive in person than in the photos. The set up...
You're a pusher! I'll bet you have a trunk full of Mandolins and trench coat pockets full of sexy mandolin pictures! :)
Cool video, thanks!
Do you think I ought to be handling my md305 with white gloves too? :mandosmiley:
Ditto, I just ordered my first Mandolin, an md305. I'm waiting for it to get here.
As mentioned above, a mandolin friend recommended Mandolessons.com. I'll be checking them out too.
I just bought my first Mandolin, an md305. The Mandolin Store is shipping it today.
I'm just curious, not to hijack the thread, but how long did you have the 305 before you felt a need to move up...
I don't even know what and F2 or F4 means but I liked your playing!
Maybe I just don't know enough about it but I think New Zealand has to be one of the coolest places in the world! Hope I can...
The guys on the Telecaster forum said Mandolin Cafe was their gateway drug!
Bet it has a hollow sound.
Electric Mandolin isn't my thing but a few people recommended them over on the Telecaster Forum when I first asked about Mandolins over there.
I ordered some picks the sales guy, James, recommended I try out. They are thicker and wider than my guitar picks but I thought it would be good to give them a try.
And the winner is!!!
I don't think I have ever stressed out this much over buying any other instrument! I'm over thinking it at this point. I have decided to get the Eastman md305 because I have...
I would like to thank you all again for the benefit of your wisdom! I have learned a lot from this thread. That guitar still hasn't sold on eBay, 22 watchers. I just dropped the price. Either way...
