    Re: Handling transactions

Any and all of the above. Throw in cashier’s check and personal check (with a clearance wait) as well. Depends on the tech capabilities and location of the person with whom you’re dealing.

    Re: Out of my league

Oh, no, Bob got taken by the company producing the Chinese knockoff!! Or, perhaps, it was one of those guys in the 70s and 80s who just couldn't quite bear to put "The Shmergal" on the headstock,...

    Re: Need some advice.

Find a song list on Spotify or Pandora or whatever that contains a lot of the music you’ll be playing with them. Listen, and play along. Work on turn around a, fills, some lead stuff, and maybe...

    Re: Ibanez No 516 Mandolin

You’re correct, I’m not saying it’s a 510. The label clearly reads 516. But, the 516 was probably discontinued somewhere along the way and the 510 is what looks closest to taking its place, at least...

    Re: Ibanez No 516 Mandolin

There’s not a ton of info out there, but looks like the 510 A/E they’re selling now. Most likely laminate spruce top and laminate maple back and sides. If the top is solid, it’s like pressed, not...

Re: If You Don't Perform In Public....

I went to a local store a couple of years ago to check a Collings MT2 they had listed. Turns out it had already sold. I played a few others out of curiosity. It came up in conversation that I play in...
  9. Re: What is the most mandolins you've owned at one time?

Started the year with 9 mando family instruments, but have whittled it down to 7. All a bit different, and most lower cost instruments I bought before I could afford better stuff, so they’re not...

    Re: I am considering a Lafferty LF-5B....

I’m not familiar with Lafferty’s naming system, but would guess the B indicates black topped?

Re: Lose grip on a thick pick or use a thin pick?

I used to prefer thicker picks for flat picking and thinner picks if I was strumming backup, especially on guitar, but Iím pretty much all 1.4 mm now. Iíll still use a Wegen TF 120 or BC TAD 40 on...

Must be how he met Dawg...love the We Wish You a Merry Christmas they do on Acoustic Christmas:)

Of course, this is pure speculation. I have absolutely no knowledge of how they met...

    Re: General Mandolin Post

Pay attention to what you want, ignore the rest (or read it anyway on the off chance that you’ll learn something).

My dad’s obsession was quarter horses. He bred, trained, and showed reining...

Re: for people who don't have deep pockets.

Agree with Josh. KM 1000s can occasionally be had used around that price point as well.

Howard Morris is making some nice looking mandolins around that price point, but Iím not sure if his are...

Re: I need a mandolin stand for stage use.

Agree, the Hercules does take up some space. That’s part of the reason it’s sturdy, but probably not the best choice in tight quarters...

    Re: First Mandolin

Agree with this. Both Kentucky and Eastman are building better mandolins now than they were 10-15 years ago, IMO. But, thereís still a lot of variability from instrument to instrument. Call TMS,...

Re: I need a mandolin stand for stage use.

I’m a Hercules triple fan as well. I’m the “utility guy” for our youth praise band (and also the adult supervision) and often play guitar, bass, and mando in the same service. The Herc has performed...

    Re: Octave sound diffence?

Allen, I used to have a Weber Hyalite OM that was carved/arched with an oval sound hole, but it was an A style. I really loved the tone but struggled with the 22.5 inch scale length for melody...
