    Re: El Toro ?

Yes. $1250.00 US would have been okay with me if I bought it. That's very good.

    Re: El Toro ?

Looks like a Craigslist add or something similar. Appears that it's being sold by an individual not a shop.

    Re: El Toro ?

I recall those El Toros NEW selling for around $1900.00 at Reverb. Bradford and Company in Kansas City was handling them. Based on that, as a New price, I wouldn't pay more than $1250.00 used....

    Re: Cafe versus Craigslist

Now that is a valid question. Unfortunately, I am unfamiliar with these photo hosting sites you speak of. I'm not exactly technologically checked out, so to speak. Thanks.

    Re: Cafe versus Craigslist

That's the odd thing about this with me. I have two phone numbers listed. The only call I have received was from an actual interested buyer who was ready to purchase until his wife intervened. I have...

    Cafe versus Craigslist

I'm comfortable with email communiques thru the Mandolin Cafe Classifieds. It's the only means of communication. My experience is that Cafe buyers or perspective buyers are straightforward, honest...

    Re: No motivation

Man. Do I ever understand. I've been considering selling my two best, of three mandolins, because I just don't play enough anymore where I feel I deserve two, top quality instruments. I know how you...

    Re: Garcia guitar Grisman mandolin

I purchased a copy of the Before the Dead CD. I enjoyed it. A friend that was a real Dead Head saw it and flipped. I gave it to her.

One of Peter Greens best early instrumentals with Mayall. "The Supernatural." Then you wonder where Carlos Santana got his sound? This is three years before Santana's first release of anything.

  13. Re: Anybody going/been to Alan Bibey Mandolin Camp?

I attended last year for the first time. It was excellent! I'll pass this year though. I look at numbers. I look at data. I believe in that stuff. Just no way.

Re: Charleston SC Bluegrass Festival 2020

Anyone that is looking for a refund and cannot get one. All you need to do is go directly thru your credit or debit card bank or company. They will issue you one. The original service was not...

    Re: Garcia guitar Grisman mandolin

I've always enjoyed Garcia and Dawg doing BB King's The Thrill is Gone. The Traveling McCoury's do a pretty good version also.

    Re: Garcia guitar Grisman mandolin

That is exactly the live version I was referring to at You Tube. Mine is the third comment down, from the top. Eddie Cochran's (Summertime Blues) nephew does some great electric guitar. The original...

    Re: Garcia guitar Grisman mandolin

I still don't take the Dead seriously but I've enjoyed a good bit of the stuff Grisman has done with Garcia. Though mostly due to Grisman on mandolin. I did recently see a great live recoding of Bob...

Re: jams with friends during covid

I'm okay with it outdoors, if everyone wears masks and we distance 6' or more. Of course, no physical contact. Been jamming with a couple of guitar players. Goes without saying, no loud banjos. :))

Re: Reverb announces increase in fees

Which makes selling right here even better. Even going thru PayPal there still isn't any sales tax. If I have the money in my checking or transfer it to my checking, I "send money to a friend" and...

  21. Re: How to Open a Vintage Guitar Store in Seven Easy Steps

I loved his mandolin history book. I played the only F-4 and Duff I've ever played at Carter's.
  22. Re: How to Open a Vintage Guitar Store in Seven Easy Steps

Went to Carter's in June of 2016. A real pleasure. I'd go back again. I'd love to go back to the Ryman again also. Didn't make it to Gruhn's and I don't know why? My wife still has the shirt she...
  23. Re: Thile and Grier at The Prism Coffeehouse, 2002

    Re: Alvarez A900 F style

First, Have you played it and how does it sound? You could also check the top thickness. The best Alvarez I played was a Japanese model I bought around 1978 and it was either an A-700 or 800, which...

    Re: Which mandolin to buy

Of those two imports, with mandolins in the same price range, I'd prefer a Kentucky. On another personal level, I've never liked the sound from an oval hole mandolin. I have always preferred F-hole...
