    Re: New here, hello.

Wow that's a neat design, great work! How about a back shot? I'd love to hear it!
  2. Re: Aluminum saddle on vintage Gibson ovals

Great point Marty! I like how you mentioned that, as there was a recent thread about fixing cracked saddles!

I forgot but Dave Appolon sure liked them, I believe he had them on all his personal...
  3. Re: Aluminum saddle on vintage Gibson ovals

It brightens up the sound a bit, I have one on an F-5 mandolin my Gramps made back in 86. And with the aluminum saddle it sounds great-I've never changed it out as he made the saddle also so I've...

    Re: Hello. Experts needed

Well to the right buyer as Derrington signed mandolins are pretty good I think you could ask 4500 or so if all is fine with the neck from hanging on the wall?
  5. Re: 1935 Gibson and Kalamazoo side rim depth

I imagine experimentation of sorts to create a louder mandolin, affordable? Kind of like the Wide Body F5-M from circa 1940 that was used on the original Tone Poems, I have it on great authority...

Re: My Last Days on Earth

Nice, I've never tried this one, I guess I'm too lazy to tune each string different, but its only the G and E strings right?

Re: What's the deal with Vintage F4s?

All those 20's builds are pretty nice regardless on the style, I've had many and all are built with better specs than the earlier ones from say the teens, but some like the say F-4 sound of the teens...

    Re: Marty Stuart's ex-Loar?

Thanks Andy B, That is a pretty good one, but all are different, I've only ever been lucky enough to stroke a handful of Loar F-5's, including mine. A load of 20's-late 30's F-5's also, But if I had...

    Re: Marty Stuart's ex-Loar?

Man "HappyPickin" not even striking a chord or some noodling around! I'd love to go to Carters right now as they have what 5 Loars and the first Unsigned, some other interesting ones like that...

    Re: Is my MAS dead?

I personally have some really great mandolins that some would dream of having and guitars but I love the hunt, thrill of finding something that hasn't been loved or played in 30-80 years-yes 80 year...

    Re: Is my MAS dead?

MAS is never dead its just a sleeping! Hey, there is a song in there I think. I like trading and trying out different things, why? I don't need to as I own some really special vintage mandolins, its...

    Re: Geib Challenge case

The case is an original from that era but looks more like the 50's outside pattern I've seen? Inside looks 30's, but yeah different outside, I don't think I've ever had one like that. Love the...
  14. Re: Which Model Gibson Is This from about 1938?

See if you can get the FON# and yes the bridge is a non-original replacement, no biggie as most vintage ones need or get replaced due to cracks etc..I like it!

Is there a website with more pix?...

    Re: Marty Stuart's ex-Loar?

Ok enough about the foosball, lets talk Loar a bit more, who has played this one? Or the Mavian, Case bros. Loar? I'd love for Carters to do a demo side by side of both as Marty's did have a...
  16. Re: Which Model Gibson Is This from about 1938?

Yes the finish looks right on for that year but they do vary from batch to batch, If you look inside the treble F-hole there should be the FON# stamped on the back in that vicinity, some have it some...
  17. Re: Which Model Gibson Is This from about 1938?

That would be a Gibson A-1 with the specs I see, stenciled Gibson, top and back binding, scalloped/clam type tailpiece cover, A-50's would have pearl peg-head inlay, the bigger/ fancier standard...
  18. Re: Gibson 5-string mandolin oddity on eBay

Yes that's a re-neck job and why unless original neck was busted! It looks like an early Mandocello body. The body is an oldie but goodie though, pre 1910, I see potential in it for a resto if bought...

    Re: 1923 A4 Gibson Value

    I traded mine, a late 24 with Virzi snake A-4, I couldn't get 4500 for it?

    Re: Marty Stuart's ex-Loar?

I think David Harvey had this one 10 years or so ago? Does this still have the Virzi or was it ripped out? Curious as most from that batch are Ferns? Nice Loar, I also really like the Bob Mavian Loar...

    Re: Instrument swap?

JUST TRADE AND MOVE ON AND ON and ON! Unless its a TRUE friend I think its a waste of time and way too many uncertainties that could happen and honestly no one will do this, say I'll play your Gil...
  22. Re: Article: Guess the Mandolin Dawg is Playing, Win $100 Gift Ce

Great but I hope with David we get a list to choose from as I know he has a herd of great mandolins! Sounds like one of those Italian G mandolins I can't pronounce on "Razzle Dazzle"

Re: Help needed - Kalamazoo KM-21

Hey Eric I think a normal bridge would be more beneficial to the top sink-age meaning less down pressure on the top? Can you post a few side shots like I did of the A-50 for you to show you the angle...

Re: Help needed - Kalamazoo KM-21

The necks on those wide bodied late 30's Gibson A-1's and A-50's are petty sweet also! That's a nice mandolin Eric, I'd get rid of that 2 pound bridge-LoL, they had them on all the budget brands, I...
