FWIW, Just read a mistake I made ...my 27/28 A jr has a 1 1/8 nut (not a 1 1/4) - Although this particular A jr has a deeper/thicker body (1 7/8ths) than my 20 F2 , the F2's (1 5/8ths) tone and...
Hey Mreidsma (original poster) did you get a chance to play this A4 snakehead at Elderly : ...
yabba dabba doooo!!!
I found some EVO 37053 with the 200 tang size at
Philadelphia Luthier Tools & Supplies
Thanks, Bob
p.s. Here's a link I found of a mandolin player AND luthier (or vice...
They are out of it and dont forsee getting any til the end of the year...they said that now that they're out of it, they've had the largest demand for it. Go figure.
Wow,
Thanx loads...
I just emailed them.

Friends,
Does anybody have a line on where to get it now that Jescar ran out and won't be ordering it soon???
I specifically need the 200 tang size to fit the 1920 F2 fingerboard.
Bob
FWIW, I just called Jescar to place an order and they are out of the 37053 Evo fretwire - The salesperson said they don't think they'll be ordering it for 6 months since it wasn't a very popular...

Friends,
I'm a proud owner of a '20 F2 in dire need of a re-fret and I'm leaning towards the Jescar 37053EVO over the Jescar 39040SS.
Can anyone with hands on experience with this particular size...
1st thing I did when I went to the sellers house was stick my fingers in the soundhole and check the top brace and it was fine. Troy Harris was nice enough to send photos of the Evo and SS for me to...
rcc56, Thanks for your suggestions - I have already showed the mandolin to another local luthier and he said he would leave the binding on - but I just wrote Troy as well. Up to 3 weeks ago, the...
I am not doing the frets myself, and this is off the orig. questions (but as long as I have an experienced ear) would it be too shabby or incomplete of a job to not take off the binding? One of my...
Thanks for enlightening info...Has anybody out there went from the OEM Gibson frets of the '20s (32hx34wx25tng)to either of the 2 sizes i m considering (53hx37w or 39hx40w) ???
Friends, Can anyone that has hands on experience help me decide between either of my final choices of fret wire?
Will the 39040 SS be too skinny of a feel change- because my MT, AJr & A9 all have...
I second that....having a 2003 A9 myself... and in your price range. They may be Gibson's lower end models as far as appointments go, lacking figured wood and back & headstock binding, but not in...
Take a look at this thread from 2006 and scroll down to post # 6 by John Flynn. Kinda sad how things have changed since then. I think they call it a "correction" in stock market terms.

Jill, I have read threads on this forum that speak of a harder V shape on the early Collings mandolins as compared to the newer ones but not much at all is/was posted about the actual differences in...
Check this out if you haven't seen or heard of it already....sort of along the lines of a phantom ???? looks like an easy fun build:

FWIW, the factory FM-61SE pick up measures 4.59k as opposed to the 5.7k that's written on the underside of the Almuse AFM61L. It's hard to believe that only an extra 1.11k (due to either more winding...
See below... they are my weapons of MAS destruction (so far, that is).
I play the mandolin but I'm not a "real" mandolin player.
Pardon my ignorance being a newb (especially at electric mandolins). What I thought is, that you would want the lower 250 value over the higher values to attenuate the edge off of whats already there...
I thought it was the other way around according to:

"250K vs. 500K
Generally, 500K-ohm pots are used with humbuckers and 250Ks are used with single-coil pickups. You can...
It's a set neck and pretty chunky to boot. A little on the glossy side but I'm used to it after a few days. The pick up sounds really good. My luthier is very meticulous and he promised me I wouldn't...
