Re: Wayne’s World of Mandolin Channel?

I was enjoying Wayne playing that Stanley A5 today. Nice recorded tone! Wayne is an enjoyable teacher.

  3. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

Many thanks to Steve Carlson for weighing in. I've owned a few Flatirons and every one was special. Steve is the real deal.

    Re: 1977 Gibson F-5 Questions

I had no comment about the signature line. I believe the "-L" was added.

    Re: 1977 Gibson F-5 Questions

Label saying "F-5-L" appears forged to me. Otherwise, an ordinary '70's pre-F-5L mando.

    Re: Mandolin Try-out Etiquette

A pro came to town years ago and had forgotten his mando. First sign. He asked to borrow my Paganoni ....... which I did as a favor. I get it back and he had removed the pickguard and scratched...

    Re: Loar Tone "Sweet Spot"

I believe Loar mandolins sounded like "Loars" from day one ...... although, they have benefited from natural aging processes, I'm sure.

Gold Member here for about six years. Incredible resource. He's got a new guitar E Bag of Licks going on right now.

    Highly recommended.

Re: Double Stop Fiddle Shop Lost to Fire

My Leaf mando case weighs very close to my Loar case. The Leaf is no burden to carry.

    Re: Carters and Gruhns...visit yesterday

In my experience, both stores are very generous in their time and encouragement to play things. Hats off to them both. Cotten is just as generous. Great shops!

Re: New Gibson Bill Monroe Hall Of Fame Model?

First, I was only expressing my opinion. This is a discussion forum. That's all.

Second, Gibson/Monroe are free to do anything they choose.

Third, I am a huge Gibson fan as evidenced by my...

Re: New Gibson Bill Monroe Hall Of Fame Model?

    My turn.

I find nothing interesting about the mandolin. If you like it, buy it. However, I find having Monroe's actual signature in a reproduction he actually never authorized to be extremely...

I believe you are referring to Ron Thomason.

    Re: Gibson Monroe Model

I'm very familiar with the red spruce one at Gruhn's. I prefer it over the other Monroe Models I've played ....... (probably played a dozen or so to date).

Re: Fern Loar F5 Attic Find

I'd have to dig ....... it may have been slightly over 20 years ago. It was fairly soon before he sold it, as best I remember.

Re: Fern Loar F5 Attic Find

The A-5 is a fabulous instrument with all the Loar tone. Tut was kind enough to let me play it about 20 years ago.

Re: Fern Loar F5 Attic Find

I may be wrong, but I'm thinking there are only two Loars with one-piece backs. I've seen them both. Have heard of a third but have not seen it.

    Re: 1958 Gibson F12

I'd recommend putting the same monies into a more modern instrument. I've owned a '54 F12 that was modified by Randy Wood into a very good instrument. However, there are better tonal and quality...
