    Re: Thomastik-Infeld Strings

Thanks Darwin, I am sure you are correct about the life of the TI’s. Playing them now a couple of days, I have noticed the dynamics of the attach with my Blue Chip picks— it seems these strings...

    Re: 1930ís Stradolin I Bought

Sue, Thank you for your kind comments! I learned a lot about what to do to level the frets and file the nut slots by watching Jerry Rosa on this video:

Re: Is this how it starts?

Really nice looking mandolin. Much better condition than the one I bought as a fixer upper. They do have a nice, dry woody tone. Thanks for sharing the pictures!

I strung up my MT today with the Thomastik Infeld medium FW’s and really enjoyed playing. The cloth wrapping on each end of the strings is a great feature, the tone is rich and colorful, but but not...

    Re: 1930ís Stradolin I Bought

Thanks Pops1, I really enjoyed the work and the satisfaction of making it playable. The old woody A5 sound is hard to beat! Never thought I could level and crown my own frets and fit my own bridge...

    Re: Thomastik-Infeld Strings

MT2, I thank you for your testimony. I would hope if my Collings is typically strung with mediums that the medium strings will suit it. The diameter seemed appropriate. Do you think I made the...

    Thomastik-Infeld Strings

    Re: 1930ís Stradolin I Bought

I have gone as far as I wanted to go and have made this a nice sounding old mandolin that has really opened up from aging. I shaped the inexpensive Golden Gate Bridge and fitted it to the top with...

  17. Re: Replacing a Collings tailpiece with a James tailpiece

I pinch the loop a bit with needle nose pliers and that creates a narrower end. It fits over the hook and stays when I wrap the string before tuning it up. Works fine. I like the look of the TP on...

  24. Re: Looking to upgrade from first, but Eastman?

David, Those MD515's are one of the best F5's for the money, consistently! The Rigel I have never played but I sure have heard great things about them and the electronics, as well.
  25. Re: Recommendations for a quality but affordable mandolin
