Here's the latest Elkhorn F-5 recently strung up and ready for a loving new home. Big leaf Maple/Adirondack. Still working on a pick guard for it but will soon be complete. Enjoy!
Thanks for the nice comment on the burst! The finish is a hand rubbed varnish... a process I've been working on over the years to give my mandolins a nice vintage vibe.

Currently using a product from LMI...really liking the way it behaves and the cure time is much shorter than many of the other products. Makes the finish time a bit shorter also. That's a good thing!...

All I can add to this thread is if you haven't tried alternative woods for mandolins you're doing yourself a huge disfavor. Many of the woods I've used for my instruments make for incredible sounding...
