LIST THE TOP 10 MANDOLINS. (Purely Sujective, no set rules)
I'm thinking about selling my 1983 RL Givens F5.
What's one of the best rl givens f5 worth?
OK experts.......I recently purchased a Kentucky KM 200S (1980's vintage). So......
On the back of the headstock, there is a "Made In Japan" sticker (as most of you know).
QUESTION: When did...
Need some help with my lyrics.
Would ya mind addin' a line or two?
Thank to all of you for a really nice thread.
Janos,
I own and play R. L. Givens F5 #298. It was born January 15th, 1983. So, that probably puts yours at circa November-December 1982. I have owned 2 or 3 R.L. Givens. It is my understanding...
Good post TEE. Thanks
Hey...The Reno Brothers or Reno and Smiley or Don Reno plus others were doing that tune in the early 1950's. So, ......it's old.....

Be 66 next April.
And ...oh yeah....
"Why are you picking on the fret board (clicking).....there aren't any strings there either".
I've had the good fortune of playing with some great pickers over the years. I smile when I think of some of the good advice they offered me. Here are some of the quotes....please add some more....

I think Bob Givens went almost totally radius about 1980 or so. Several others started a little later. I think I would seriously think about following suit. I play a radius....and would not go back...

Well, as I watch TV and read......
I guess the world's supposed to end around 2012.
So......what's gonna be the last tune you pick?
And....what are ya gona do with your mandolin?
Bass is the beat; mandolin is the snare drum.
One thing all great players have.......is a great chop. Not a "string" chop.......or fanning as I call it........but a good woody, drivin' chop......
"The mandolin work by Dan Tyminski on Ronnie Bowman's solo cds. He is a sleeper in my book."
I thought Dan was outstanding when he played with the Lonesome River Band years ago before Adam. Of...
Adam Steffey
Wayne Benson
Sure I miss it......but it went to someone who plays it!!!!! However, I still play one of the best Givens ever made: Born January 15th, 1983. R.L. Givens F5, #298. Thanks Greg for selling me this...
Looter, I recognized my old Givens A model in your picture.
Best Wishes from Oklahoma.

"Keep your right hand closed". Big Mon did it. "Don't let your fingers rest on the top....or for that matter....don't even let them touch the top". It seems to me that most of todays players don't...
Morgan David .....perhaps!
What a great bunch of replys.
You guys know I'm not addressing improv......improv is the ultimate form of musical creativity.....and is necessary to make music, "Touch the Heart".
I'm talking...
I played a Kentucky 1500 in the early 1990's. Sold it to buy a 1982 Givens F Model (out of necessity). Would not let my Givens go for anything......but sure wish I still had the Kentucky 1500!!!
