    Re: Volume vs Tone

I have purchased better ears for all my listeners. Works wonders.
  4. Re: Gibson is preparing to sell NFTs of its most famous models

People always love the music from the prime of their life the best. In 30 years time everyone will be desperately trying to recapture the sound of classic iPhone apps from 2022.
  5. Re: Gibson is preparing to sell NFTs of its most famous models

I guess even Beethoven just did it all on a keyboard, wrote it out and made other musicians play it, though.

And interestingly, a surprisingly large proportion of the pianos in those homes were...
  6. Re: Gibson is preparing to sell NFTs of its most famous models

In the future, people won't play mandolin. They will just pay for a digital copy of the sound they would have made if they had put the effort in.

Re: No brace bowl back soundboard - ?

Somebody cared enough to replace the tuning pegs with machine heads. They must have been hopeful when they tried it.
  8. Re: Gibson is preparing to sell NFTs of its most famous models

One of the great things about acoustic musical instruments is that they are inherently non-fungible. Unlike NFTs, however, they also have an intrinsic value that isn't dependent on an ephemeral...

Re: No brace bowl back soundboard - ?

This is like one of those murder mystery podcasts where you only get the clues one installment at a time.

    Re: RIP Jean-Jacques Savin

He "wanted to laugh at old age" but "got into difficulties off the Azores". A fate to which we can all relate.

    Re: Standing issues

I remember this being a big issue for me when I started playing at jams and in public, and I think that a lot of it was to do with just having spent too much time practicing sitting down and holding...
  14. Re: New year goals - advice for getting better at practice

Pick 10 tunes that you really like, learn them by heart, and work on them every day until you can perform them exactly how you want them to sound. That is really all there is to it. It's a lot harder...

Re: Mandolin As A New Direction

I have to hand it to anyone who comes on the mandolin forum and says they like guitars better. They have what it takes in this world and my undying respect.

Re: Where did you find your last mando?

I'm done looking for mandos. The next one can get off its backside and find me.
  20. Re: Question for users of Audacity app--multiple devices?

That would depend somewhat on the app you are using, and whether you are using iOS or Android, but most decent audio apps have a "Share" feature. If you also have Google Drive installed, you will see...

  23. Re: Where do the names F-style and A-style actually come from?

I always thought it was called an F because of the F-holes, and an A for similar reasons.
  24. Re: multi-instrumentalists: how do you manage your time?

I don’t, I am entirely ruled by my passions, and I have no control over what I will do next.
  25. Re: How to get songs by ear... When you have no ear?

If you want to learn a song by ear but you can't do it, slowing it down is a good idea. If you find the tune you want to learn on Youtube, if you are on a computer you can use the settings menu (cog...
