  2. Re: Did you catch the Ken Burns Country Music series opening?

Burns picked a perfect place to stop, though I was itching for him to take on Newgrass. He could have at least given us a taste! But most all of that newer stuff is available on youtube and...

Thanks to all you historians, filling in some of the blanks in my upbringing.
  4. Re: Did you catch the Ken Burns Country Music series opening?

Awesome thread about an awesome doc. Even my wife, who’s not that into country and especially not intoC and W, and who has little background in the bluegrass I play rather incessantly, is captivated.

    Re: Elbow or wrist...

No. In general, I advocate doing what most players do, a little more elbow when playing chords, more wrist when picking. Check out David Benedict’s website or watch him on utoob. I just thought it...

    Re: Tonegards

Interesting thread. My $.02: I’ve had one for several years on my KM 1500, a newer Tonegard with the clear tubing on the clamps. I play sitting down usually. with only the very back of the mando...

    Re: Elbow or wrist...

David B. is clearly resting his mando on something...first time I’ve seen that. Must try it myself. I think that seems to stabilize his mando and promotes more of the elbow, tomahawk action....

  13. Re: Thile quote on resting hand on the bridge

In a utoob vid for mando beginners, Mike Marshall advocates the fleshy part of the palm touching the bridge “ever so slightly”.

    Re: Soft Picks ?

I’ve tried most all the picks, and I’ve found the D’Andrea Radex 1.25 I got recently to be really soft, almost a sponge-like feel. Softest I’ve tried, but I haven’t tried a Wolle.

    Re: Blue Chip meltdown

I like the way my TAD 60 sticks right onto my thumbpad, like, immediately. So then I can loosen my grip and still not drop it. I’m following Mike Marshall’s instructions: “You should drop the pick...

I went to the Corta Madera jam two years ago. Very nice, encouraging folks playing BG and OT. Same with the Plow and Stars group.

BYW, he compares three D’Add. string types on this session. As usual, I couldn’t hear any...
