Man oh man I just love the sound of Seans J45. Does anyone have any idea what kind of pickup he was using? I could see it sitting in the soundhole and it looked like some kind of mics
Good to know. I'm used to using cheaper picks and buying them in decent quantities so this is going to take a different thinking. I figure the best thing to do is store them in my mandolin case
I...
I agree...It minimized the mid range honk brought out the articulation and makes the mando sound beefier...I always liked the sound of the Eastman but this was a big improvement
I'm very suspect when it come to higher priced picks but I was given a Papa's pick to try out and my Eastman 605 has never sounded better. I've gone through over 10 different picks of various...
Thanks for the info Rob that gives me more to think about. He does already have an acoustic guitar and he likes more music styles than metal, that happens to be what he plays more than other styles...
Hey thanks that's a place to start.
Hey folks
My 16 year old metal head son shocked me and said he wants a mandolin for Christmas and I have no idea whats out there that's decent in the $300 range. I know you can't have everything...
Last winter my strap peg fell out of my 605 a couple of times. We'll see what this years dry winter air brings
I love my MD 605 but it needs a F style brother :)
I buy that instruments can change over time but as a long time audio engineer I don't buy that people are as in tune to the changes as they claim to be. There's way too many variables
Same here but I'm on Android. Works great
My luthier who used to do setups for Jethro Burns back in the day was impressed by the quality of my 605 so that's enough validity for me as to build quality.
Thanks guys I appreciate the information and Jim wow what a gold mine those Jethro Burns lessons are
Hey guys
I'm looking for written mandolin music that has more chordal melodies. There's tons of single note stuff out there but I'm looking for music that would be similar to something for a solo...
I'm going to give it a try too. Great selection
Have someone make a painting of the mandolin hang it on the wall and play the damned thing :mandosmiley:
Count me in too. I'm still on the fence and searching as to what pick I like best for my Eastman.
Thanks
I picked up a Mxr 10 band Eq today and presto it sounds much better. I cut the lows and low mids especially 250 and 500 hz and left the top end alone. We'll hear what is does on the gigs this weekend...
Thanks tablaninja
I'm contemplating trying a mxr 10 bad eq and I should be able to dial it in but the purist in me wishes I didn't have to do that but I think it's worth a try. The eq on the...

I have an Eastman MD 605 and I'm thinking about getting a new pickup for it and I'm looking for recommendations. It has the Scherlter resociol and from what I read it's not a cheap...

I thought it was great, I couldn't stop watching it. Educational, inspiring and depressing all at the same time.
Out by me in the burbs of Chicago which is an area that favors top 40, classic rock, metal and tribute bands in the clubs a few bluegrass/newgrass/acoustic music clubs have popped up are doing great...
