    Re: Im visiting Denver Colorado

(Not Denver but...) Shout out to the Telluride Music Company, Hart's Music in GJ (largest selection of Martin guitars I've ever seen), and Wildwood Guitars in Louisville (suburb of Denver.)

    Re: Dean Mandolin

In my opinion, these laminated instruments are pretty much all the same and not generally worth it. I'd suggest going for a used Kentucky KM-150 or a RM-50, both very highly regarded instruments....
  3. Re: Good camcorder and set up for recording a mandolin

    Bernie,

Yes! Most "vlogging" or mid-level DSLRs do have a rotating LCD screen. But even if they don't (my cameras don't) you can easily connect your phone to most Canon (and likely soon Nikon)...
  4. Re: Good camcorder and set up for recording a mandolin

Just thought I'd throw in my two cents real quick. I'm a professional photographer and videographer, by trade. For any beginners looking for a good/decent video set-up but don't want to get into the...

Re: Anyone play the 8-string Fender Mando Strat?

Ya know, personally, I think a 4-string is better for electrics. The double courses are there for added volume and electrics usually don't need that attribute . I'm a fan of the 4-strings for...
  6. Re: Kentucky KM-1000 Master F-model - V-neck shape

Most of the Webers that I've ever played (including my yellowstone-like Buffalo) have skinny V-necks. IMHO, I think it makes it much easier to play.

Re: Is my mandolin octave or regular?

Hi there! That's definitely a regular ol' mandolin. You should tune it as a mandolin with your tuning app. The black thing that I think you're referring to is a pickguard. And as for the numbers next...

    Re: Colorado!

    Hey!

I'm living in Durango for a few more weeks (until I graduate). We have a lot of infrequent jams over here along with a couple regular ones (Irish jam at the Irish pub!). I've never been to...

    Re: Weber vs. Eastman

I've owned an Eastman 815 and I currently own a Weber Buffalo (Yellowstone-like). Every Weber I've ever played has a similar tone which I tend to love with a lot of lows and a good balance. The...
  12. Re: Lueez Mandocellos? (Need help!) MandoCelloQuest!

The woods used in these instruments are not treated correctly and, therefore, they generally end up as firewood within a couple months of purchase. Beware! I'd suggest an Eastman/Ovation mandocello...

Re: Telluride Town Park Camping Question

You could probably rent a bathroom in Mountain Village for $500 a night. Worth a shot. ;)

Re: shipping cost higher than in listing ???

No. You should pay the original shipping price and the agreed price for the instrument. That's very backhanded of the seller. For shame.

Re: Telluride Town Park Camping Question

It's crazy there... People turn into animals looking for camping spots. Festival Nazis is what we call them here.

    Re: Bridges?

Is it a flat top or arch top? Either way, you'll probably have to fit it to the top. Which involves laying sandpaper on the top and gently rubbing the bridge against it.

Re: ...and I am still in the hunt!!!

Minor finish checking will have no effect on the tone of an instrument. Just one's pride. ;)

    Re: Eastman MD515 F Style

I've played lots of quieter Eastmans. But they all had a very sweet soft sound. They're really nice for classical with nickel/monel strings.

Re: Sam Bush's Mandolin Method DVD

I think it has to do with the recording/processing method. It never bothered me much though. That's a great DVD.

    Re: 1905 3-point F4 with a shave and a haircut

I love the pickguards on those old Gibsons. I'd take that refinished F4 for the current bid price!

Re: ...and I am still in the hunt!!!

I'm on the western slope near Hotchkiss! You should consider going to wildwood music in Boulder. I enjoy that store a lot. There are a couple others but I can't remember the names. You may be able to...
