  1. Re: Did you catch the Ken Burns Country Music series opening?

If you like this, Ken Burns Jazz documentary is also excellent -- even if you don't like Jazz....

Re: Straighten a Neck - No Truss Rod

Yes, Kay Kraft's are cool. I've probably had 5 or 6 over the years -- mostly basket cases that I restored, but I did find a near mint one once at a guitar show that had amazingly low action --...

    Re: Shade Tree Mando Repair

Hey, I've seen worse! Usually, the person doing it has no tools and uses a screwdriver and a hammer to make the hole! Good job on keeping it playing!

Actually, I've seen that kind of access hole...

I do a similar woe on eBay, although on more of a time delay -- I see something I like, I put it on my watch list, it is there for months, somebody finally buys it, THEN I get mad at myself for not...

Re: Opera singer guitarist in need of help

If you get an Aria (brand) mandolin, then you could sing the aria and play the Aria............:)

Sorry, hard to resist a setup like that.....................:mandosmiley:

  13. Re: Hypothetical high dollar mando purchase question...

My boss at the vintage guitar shop would say, "play it for ten minutes and you'll get used to it!" (when people would try to apply their list of dream specs to a vintage instrument.....)

Re: Seam separation repair on Loar era F-4

The hole on a 9 string is smaller than a pore on a mahogany back or side, so it really can't be seen.....

If you fill it, it would probably draw more attention to the repair, IMHO....FWIW

Re: Is there "ideal" neck relief?

    Good tip, John!

Another old trick at least with guitars is that some acoustics will buzz with 12's, but won't with 13's due to the added tension giving a slight relief.

    Also, a lot of short...
