    Re: Blueberry mandolin

If it sounds good, I'd play it. Maybe even in public. I'd probably be grinning, too. But I'm not tempted to order one on spec.

    Re: paddy on the turnpike

She has a nice tutorial on the tune on her youtube channel, too. Camera angle shows left hand fingerings very clearly so you can relate them to mandolin. Thanks for introducing me to her videos!

    Re: paddy on the turnpike

Wow. I googled and I am glad I did. She is pretty darn good. And she is playing the version that I like.

She is playing at a pretty good clip, I am getting something like 200 to 220 as I attempt...

Also, I have a page of links on my website. It hasn't been updated in a good while, but I still do use most of those links. http://honketyhank.com/favorite-links/
  5. Re: First Video of The Mandolin Store new location

Yup. I drove down to Surprise AZ last September. Two and a half days down, a couple hours looking at mandolins, two and a half days back. Came back empty handed, much to my wife's relief. I am still...

    Re: string gauge calculator

For nipping out the ball for ball-end** strings, I have used a small nipper that I bought in a cheap set. Probably available on Amazon or Harbor Freight. They were a bit dull for the job so I had to...

    Re: string gauge calculator

I have used the calculator at https://wahiduddin.net/calc/calc_guitar_tension_from_size.htm successfully. Haven't popped a string yet, at least not because it was the wrong guage.

    Re: Thank you, Eastman

Brand new bridge (& saddle) arrived today. Saddle will fit currently installed bridge, yay! All I have to do is cut the slots. Easy peasy.

    Thank you again, Eastman.

Thanks Mark. Didn't this guy have a jug band way back when?

Re: Hello, first time player here

Being a piper, you may already be aware of www.thesession.org, but if not, they maintain a great repository of Celtic tunes with both the dots and ABC notation. Another great resource is Baron...

    Thank you, Eastman

On Saturday (three days ago) I unpacked a five year old Eastman mandola that I purchased used. Tuning it up, I noticed a problem with the bridge saddle intonation cuts. Saturday night I contacted...

    Re: The Magic 200

Well said, and a good reminder to me as to why I fumble my way through tunes that I thought I had "learned". Thank you.

    Re: Waiting for UPS

Well, I have already stomped all over Doug's thread, so I'll just say I would trade several of what I presume is in my box for what was in his box. And I'm not talking about the ghost f@rts.

    Doug,...

    Re: Waiting for UPS

Oh lordie, there must be a cubic yard of peanuts (ghost toots) in that box.

And the case feels cold. I'm gonna have to wait before I open it any further.

I'm gonna be awful tired of that...

    Re: Waiting for UPS

Looking out my window (four minutes after the 2-hour window) I have seen Fed Ex trucks go by three times and the USPS vehicle twice., along with a few bicyclers and dogwalkers.

    Re: Waiting for UPS

I got a two hour window from UPS for their estimated delivery time. I have 11 minutes left in that window. Please, somebody, play the jingle.

    8 minutes: Play it again!
    7 minutes: Keep it going....

    Re: E string constantly breaking

Interestingly (to me anyway), I have broken a few E strings while loosening them relatively rapidly. On one mandolin where this happened, I was taking the tension off because I suspected the nut...

Re: NMD 1989 Flatiron Performer A

Spencer, I snagged a 1994 Flatiron Festival A from Bozeman, MT about a month ago and I love it. I think that would be after Gibson bought the company. But it sounds better to my ear than any Gibson I...

  25. Re: The Long Lost Mandolin Cafe Time Wasters Page

"Long Lost"? If I didn't know it was there, how could it be lost?

But if it is subsequently "found" anyway, I would have to say that is just amazingly graceful.

I did have fun wasting some time...
