    Re: Transcribe or Amazing Slowdowner?

“Kicking and screaming”, I hear you; my last laptop purchase I search “new old stock” until I could find a suitable new one that shipped with win7, so no I’m not on Windows 10. I’d imagine that video...

Re: Solo Recordings - 1 Mandolin

i just looked out of curiosity, and found nothing in iTunes on the phone for this. I do not have that problem, because I manage iTunes from a laptop and sync with the phone. Adding tunes through...

    Re: technique

I’ve had an epiphany that started with the Sierra Hull video I mentioned in an earlier post and was helped along by this thread and by some personal observations of my own playing: Technique = tone

Re: The Christmas Song chord progression

First two notes are the octave: both C notes. This is a good indicator that the first chord is probably a C chord. Beware of thinking that the first note of a song is the key of the musical piece! It...

    Re: technique

Can’t really separate technique from other aspects of playing, can you? Expressiveness would rely in part on technique, and can even be said to be a technique in and of itself.

    Re: technique

Somebody recently posted a video of Sierra Hull demonstrating how to achieve good “tone”. Interestingly, everything she discusses in that video is about technique.

Re: Solo Recordings - 1 Mandolin

Too bad you don’t care for vocals, Brian Oberlin’s stuff is awesome, solo mandolin but some songs with vocals along with the instrumentals.

Also, check out Mandalone by Tim O’Connell

    Re: Vintage 1970’s epiphone mm-70

I believe both the back and the top of the ones Mike posted photos of are solid, carved top and back. Machine carved or hand carved? No matter, even a nicely carved top may not be graduated properly....

Finally got to watch this, and have to say COOL

It was great seeing these guys play together. My main thought on watching this was that there will surely be some people who do not know who...

Re: Bridge digging into picking hand

+1 Okay to round off sharp corners, on some I've even had to round off the screw (that holds the thumb wheel) a bit on the end. It is your mandolin make it comfortable.

It is similar to HPL, both richlite and HPL laminate paper with durable resins. The HPL used for countertops and other Millwork is usually made in pretty thin panels, using kraft paper. Richlite is...

    Re: About TAB and SN

Tom, I agree with you that "it is good to have a [good] music teacher." What I disagree with are the often repeated signals given in the forums that tablature is "bad". For what it's worth, choosing...

    Re: About TAB and SN

Hi Ralph ~ the process of writing tablature in TablEdit goes like this:

    1. Choose a key signature
    2. Choose a time signature
    3. Choose an instrument, and tuning (if other than standard)
    4....

  24. Re: “It’s Now or Never” Saturday Jam

Great job, I love mandolin accompaniment to vocals. Hard for me to make it work on a lot of songs, but some like this one are great for it. I like doing Don't Be Cruel on the mandolin as well.

Re: Front porch furniture + mandolin

If your porch or patio is like a wooden deck, and large enough, consider building in benches around the perimeter for extra seating and good places to sit and pick.
