    Re: Mandolins on Ebay

I've bought more than my share of instruments on Ebay. Regarding "used" or "new not in the box" instruments, I no longer buy from anyone resembling a power seller, only truly private individuals. ...
  2. Recording my Loar LM-600 on a big string song

    Give a listen, here 'tis.

  3. Re: CMC joint arthritis (no mandolin content)

Call me Gina, the other action of DMSO, besides its anti-inflammatory analgesic properties, is that it carries along other medications when it penetrates the skin into the joint. Kind of a carrier. ...

    Re: Healing power of mandolin

You sound like a track coach for mandolin players, analyzing an injury and offering rehabilitative training. Really impressive, thanks.

    Re: Healing power of mandolin

Neck surgery, 5 back surgeries, both shoulders, yoga is unlocking my 7 year traumatized body as well as improving my playability. Being a gospel man, I say “God Bless You” instead of “Namaste”, and...

Re: Finger splints for arthritic joints

DMSO unlocked my left pointer finger. I use it for three applications with 1% cortisone cream (no more as cortisone will thin your skin), and then by itself or wth liquid ibuprofen, every other day...
  7. Re: CMC joint arthritis (no mandolin content)

I’ve averted surgery by using DMSO. It actually unlocked my left pointer finger.

Re: A charango I built recently

The finish really pops out the grain. Great job.

    Re: Stainless Steel Strings

It’s only an advantage to those who play enough to change strings frequently, or to those who are willing to invest an extra $15 to explore a wider sonic response.

    Re: Stainless Steel Strings

Let’s assess this together, putting two split sets every course. One metal gives one set of frequency responses, the next gives another set. For instance, the frequency response of a monel and PB...

Re: considering an oval hole mandolin

On EBay I’ve bought a few of those solid wood mail order mandolins from the 20s and 30s, solid maple, the tops and backs are slab cut maple and not quarter sawn, but never had a clunker. You’ll need...

    Re: Fretboard weak spots?

Me, I’d touch the fret slot with a bit of Crazy Glue, holding it down with a hammer while it dried.

    Re: day 1

Surgeons are real miracle workers. Carpal tunnel is a debridment surgery, not a reattachment or reconstructive, and you should be able to approach rehabilitation a bit more aggressively. How long...

Yes, I forget the guy who posted it, but he’s a genius. He also added you get two sets out of the purchase.
  16. Re: String quality on used instruments in stores?

I represent that remark. Had perfect pitch until the combination of a shotguns and Lyme disease took out my good ear, leaving my bad ear my good ear and my good ear my badder ear.

    Re: Stainless Steel Strings

Somebody here on MC suggested mixing PB and SS, every other string. I tried it and it seems to work. I think the idea is that PB gives one response and SS gives another, creating a synergistic...

Re: K&K Pickup or Microphone on Collings?

Both. I would say mic if one or the other, but using both mic and pickup covers a much broader sonic area for the guy on the board to sculpt, much easier to control on a board either live or studio,...

    Tascam TM-60 Condenser Mic

All I gotta say is the is the cheapest bestest mic for recording stringed instruments. After a bit of research on my limited budget, this seemed the best el cheapo, something like $65 if I remember...
  20. Re: Warning: Denatured Alcohol FUMES are dangerous

My having neither degree doesn’t discount the reliability of available resources. Again, I reiterate, restate, and am redundantly repeating that methyl alcohol is the denaturing agent I referred to...
  21. Re: Warning: Denatured Alcohol FUMES are dangerous

Bernie, I’m not mixing ethyl and methyl up, just using ethyl as the leading example as we’re a lot more familiar with its inTOXICating effects. I again apologize, alcohol is...
  22. Re: Warning: Denatured Alcohol FUMES are dangerous

SBlock, what’s your field of expertise? I guess you’ve been a bit too busy to catch the news of the latest craze, vaping ethyl alcohol. Alcohol fumes go right through the alveoli, returned by the...
  23. Re: Warning: Denatured Alcohol FUMES are dangerous

You’re posting a bit quick, it doesn’t seem you’ve had time to check the resources provided. Maybe just look into hard medicine on the subject. It seems there’s a bit of defense being mounted on...
  24. Re: Warning: Denatured Alcohol FUMES are dangerous

My apologies, alcohol is myelin-lipo-specific-philic, one point for the other side, but one point retracted for a red herring.

Mark, OSHA only shows up after the lead paint is already removed, us...
  25. Re: Warning: Denatured Alcohol FUMES are dangerous

Bernie, then ETOH ingestion should have no effect whatsoever on that glob of fat we call the brain. Thanks for clearing that up. Why, then, does methanol attack the optic nerve and the myelin...
