    Re: cheap external pickup

Looks like it is a condenser mic, and requires 48 volt phantom power, but shouldn't need a preamp. You may need a phantom power unit depending on what you are plugging into.

    Re: cheap external pickup

Remember the pickup, no matter what brand or price, will not sound good without a preamp. You can plug into an amp designed for a piezo, and sometimes a board will have one channel that will have a...

    Re: Geek Pre-Amp question OHMs

I think the extra bass you are hearing is from a perfect impedance match rather than one that is 9 million ohms off. Electronics says a factor of 10 is ok, but right on is better in my opinion.

Re: Vega Cylinder Back Mandolin Bridge

Why are you looking to replace the bridge. The chip out near the strings can be repaired easily. Much more easy than making and fitting a new bridge. If it is too short you can add wood to the bottom...
  5. Re: Off in the weeds on my first mando purchase ...

Some necks are deeper at the same nut width. Some like the extra depth, others don't. As was said this won't be your last mandolin so if you feel the depth is better for you to start then by all...

Re: I have a superton, what next?

I would prefer you buy a fret crowing file. You don't need to do a complete fret level if you are nervous about it. If you use a good light and there is no buzzing now, simply use the crowning file...

Re: Does anyone have a case like this?

You have plenty of key to start over and redo it. Looks like your tab is a little shorter (not as wide) as your sample key. Your lock may have a different position for the tab, start with a longer...

Re: Grace Design BiX vs. Red Eye

I am using a K&K also. Installation is slightly different, I glued two pieces of tape in between the pickup and top. Everything is glued, but the tape warms it up some. Taking the treble down ruins...

    Re: Brentrup Mandolins

How long did you play it? If it has been sitting a while it likes to be played to open up. Play it often and it will stay that way. I love mine.

Re: I have a superton, what next?

    1. A damp rag, not wet.

    2. If the tuners work well clean them up or not, up to you.

    3. Mike shows an original bridge, but you may want to put on a bridge that has intonation. Will most likely...

    Re: A request of builders

I am with Marty on the string height at the nut. I like the space to be less than the space above the second fret when fretted at the first. There is very little movement of the string at the nut and...

Re: A model case for old Gibson

Seems I read that the Collings case will NOT work for the short neck Gibsons. Older TKL cases work, and some cheaper new ones I have found to work, but it's nice to try them first.

Re: I have a superton, what next?

The bridge looks like it's from a classical guitar, not original. Be sure to check inside with a mirror and light to see if the brace is glued well. The nut looks like ebony and can be repaired or...

Re: Grace Design BiX vs. Red Eye

Interesting, I have no experience with the Grace, but on the RedEye I have the treble all the way up for guitar, all the way up for one mandolin, and half or better for the other mandolin. It sounds...

    Re: Gibson A50, odd neck

I think on the 3 piece necks the skunk strip is often dyed pear wood. As it deteriorates the seam will come apart. Not the cause of failed glue, but the wood deteriorating.

    Re: Bowed neck issue

I have had weak glue joints cause a neck to bow and simply removing and regluing helped. You can also try refretting with oversized tang frets which will help the bow. I have done that with old...

    Re: Brentrup Mandolins

I have stopped and visited Hans a few times, and played some of his instruments. The guitars are great and I wish I could have afforded one at the time. I prefer small guitars for fingerstyle. I have...

I use the Hurcules guitar stand. Hangs from the headstock, heavy duty and works for a mandolin too.

Re: Getting mildew off a gig bag

Vinegar will remove it and not be harsh. The vinegar odor will go away soon if you want to leave it on for further protection. Use a brush and scrub it, rinse.

    Re: Solving unexpected problems
