In Ireland I see lots of players that use that flexible thumb picking style particularly banjo players & nearly all of them are great players! I think it comes from starting off picking tunes rather...
@tonydxn. I'm very interested in the whole fan-fret concept & I don't see it as being overly complex, but I'm only a player not a builder! Alastair Hay of Emerald Guitars in Donegal is building me a...
I dend to think the opposite. Most of the mass produced tenors are built around the traditional CGDA in my opinion body size wise at least. My first Tenor the Harley Benton is great in CGDA &...
Whatever the story, it certainly sounds like a 'Happily ever after Ending'.
So there's no point in taking a parachute up with you when you go hang gliding either. 300'ceiling that sucks!
Being an Australian this island seems tiny, Some advice to both you guys,'Don't take up Hot Air Ballooning!' :whistling:
I think that it isn't that important 'what' you practice. In my opinion it's super important 'how' you practice. Practice will make you better, it will make you better at your good habits &...
Some food for thought, go over to the Tenor guitar threads & see what cornfield has posted recently regarding putting nylons on banjos, that's one way of giving an audience a different flavour. I've...
The photo angle of the bridge makes it look like a lefty to my eyes.
This my not be helpful for you but I have a Soares'y Tenor resonator guitar (no pickup). It is a good quality instrument! I sent it up to Emerald guitars for them to copy the neck profile on my...
Rather than start a new thread when this is totally related; I just spoke to my luthier, Alistair at Emerald Guitars in Donegal & put the specs together for a GDAE Carbon Fibre Tenor. It'll be a...
My dream is a CGDA acoustic but in the cello range. Never heard one but I know people have had them made.[/QUOTE]
Well if they can do the job of making a ukulele bass sound well, then your dream...
Maybe Aussies used to order fush & Chups back in the day too 8-)
And such a relaxed hold on the plck. Such relaxed everything!!!
Another consideration my be to get some Hannabach series 890 strings for children's 1/8th classical guitar strings. I ordered 6 sets of them yesterday from amazon to try GDAE on a 17" scale Tenor...
18" scale tuned GDAE on normal steel strings seems a bit short to me. I've tried gypsy guitar strings on a 16" concert banjo-uke that sounds ok if that's any help.
Nice work! At 18" are you going for CGDA tuning?
For the Mouthorgan competition they want a "tremolo" Mouthorgan. The brand of choice for all the top players is Tombo. They allow 2 Mouthorgans for the comp, most players use a D & a G Mouthorgan....
Fleadh time again 2019. In 2017 I had timing/tempo issues, hence this thread. Thanks to everybody for their great advice, it was big help! Last year it was mostly positive comments from the judges in...
I'll get someone to help me do that next week (I have an All-Ireland final to contest at the Fleadh this weekend).
I had enough trouble trying to add the photo, I haven't a clue how to do a sound clip. It does sound great though, I brought it to a session in Doolin (Co Clare) on the weekend & within 30 seconds...
This is an idea I put up on a previous post. The idea is to split the neck so the 23" tenor GDAE strings can easily be strummed separately. The 25 1/2" bottom FC bass strings are easily...
That's an interesting guitar, I'm finding it hard to tell at which fret is square across the neck, maybe the 7th. It would be nice to know what the scale lengths are!
No worries Jill I pm'd you yesterday with my contacts. I definitely won't be competing in mandolin, just looked up the timetable & I'm down for 7 categories at the same time with one being in a...
