To my Musician friends:
I do wish to publish my report and study about a disease that is rampant among so many of us musicians..
It is known as BGMS and it is financially destructive to...
I am making the attempt to go to Darrington, and i might stick around for the Gorge fest. Tom
George---that was a good one. I could not look at that scroll if it were spinning in a microwave.....
You are right (but we already knew that) I knew him in the late 60's and you did refresh my memory on his mandolin.
I think Larry Rice played an early 70's model ( at least that is what it looked like) when I knew him in So Calif. I don't know if he kept that mandolin when he played with JD.
I agree with what everyone has said. I talked to the builder of Ridge mandolins here in Oklahoma, as his thought echo everybody else. Even mine. No matter what, it is still a poorly engineered...
I am thinking that, too. Mid 70's were almost as bad as the early 70's. Re-finishing is NOT a requirement (but it is ugly) . It is doubtful that it can sound like some of the 80-90's coming out of...
I saw this mando today and got some pics. The tone is poor ( have some other Nice Gibson F5's)
What does it cost to get an F5 re-graduated and re-finished. It does sound like some copper wire...
I will join the ranks of the real name crew, Especially since i don't have my 1956 Gibson F5 Hoss anymore. Tom Mullen (from Tulsa OK)
I played at that fest from 1965 thru 1972. First as a contestant then as performer. One of the few times in my life that i played the fiddle. I got 2nd place intermediate fiddle in 1966. The other...
Got it... I see it now. Also in a similar thread.
Is it possible to have 2 Gibson mandolins with the exact same serial # if one was built in 2001 and the other in 2011, or 2002- 2012. How is the decade noted in the serial number?
I have never been there, but it is only a 3 1/2 hour drive from here (tulsa), so if there is some good jamming, look for me.
Hi Steve.
I remember the day in the Summer of 1978 when I made a business trip thru Bozeman and stopped by the store to meet you and pick a few tunes. Later on we played at Karl Marx Pizza and went...
I couldn't care less about apathy in a song.:))
Oklahoma musician friend: " Y'all ain't from around heya, are ya?"
Me: "No I am not. From Southern Calif."
Friend: "No wonder I caint understand your talking." :))
Me??? it takes me several takes to get ONE mandolin break right, and a whole buncha fixes to get the vocals right. I ain't 40 anymore.......that's MY excuse! LOL
If you listen closely to many of the current artists' recordings, you will hear a mandolin rhythm all the way through the song, even when the mandolin is playing the lead break. I asked a former...
p.s. Hello Tom, we are in the single digits today with about 6 inches of snow on the ground.[/QUOTE]
Hey George. 70 here today. 9 holes of golf followed by a 3 hour picking session with banjo...
Orig from Southern Cal (sorry!) 24 years in Montana and now in Broken Arrow, OK, playing golf and music professionally....(making tens of dollars at one and spending $hundreds on the other....LOL)....
I am with you, Scotti...the banjo left hand is NOT playing FMB. Even the tones of the instruments are different than in the intro. Sam is not playing Golden Slippers. His fingers are doing another...
Probably Larry Barnwell. He was manager at the Montana mandolin plant at that time. He signed my Dec 1994 F5L. Does it look like that name?
Here is what happened:
