Noticed that too. Which makes me wonder if the screw holding the neck didn't work? Also wonder about the top brace. Maybe it's just the photo but the top looks sagged under the bridge. Too bad...

If we're really getting down to the smaller points, no, the early Gallatin wasn't like a Gibson F, it was a different take with the scroll and headstock. Also, the early Gallatin appears to have been...
If made after 2018, the Yellowstone will have a dovetail neck joint while the Gallatin is a mortise and tenon. Whether that makes a difference is for you to decide.
Should they sound better? Maybe. But it depends on what one thinks is good looking. My A Jr. looks like it was through the mill (and with all the repairs it had before I got it, it was). Sounds fine...
Mainly the BG100. Although I have a couple TF 140 and on the right day it sounds great on my Weber. Started with the BG on guitar when they first were offered so I have a bias there.
Do have a question for the original poster - does your Gallatin have maple or mahogany back and sides? If maple, maybe look for a used Gallatin oval hole in mahogany. If mahogany (which was standard...
I've not seen a just red one. Most seem to be more of a red sunburst. It does look original to the instrument, though. Maybe a custom order for someone?
The price is not out of line for an OF...
Another trick used by the late Danny Gatton was to drill out the fret markers on the side of his Telecaster and replace them with cubic zirconia. He'd leave them a bit above the edge of the neck....
Am split on them. A little more than half mine have them, the others don't. For me, it's more of how much does my arm dampen the sound from the top? Some sounded the same (one worse) with an armrest....
You have the "new" and as Ray states, any tuners, EXCEPT the Restoration would work. For both my A Jr. and Kalamazoo (made by Gibson) I use these -...
I will from time to time look at the instrument. Not always to make sure my fingers are going in the right spot. Sometimes when playing a gig, I need to focus better and traditionally have picked a...
Thanks. I think it's also the old problem of not being able to get the sound I hear in my head to translate through my hands. Although whether that is technique or instrument is a discussion for...
No kidding. Am in the same boat. I really don't need all that I have. But, well, there they are. I keep myself amused saying eventually I will trade them all on a "good" one some day.
Per Paul Fox's book in 1933, yes, they had a flat back. Usually mahogany but sometimes maple (p.116) There are photos of one of those on Google that's mis-labeled an A-40. From a sold listing on...
What a stunning mandolin. Really nice looking. And very nice playing, too.
And, yes, it's sometimes fun to play the tunes slower than "standard". But if you get too slow, then you might end up in...
Jim,
This is more out of left field, but after your description, have you thought about looking for a late '20's Gibson? My Jr. has a very round neck. Closer to a Stradolin than most other Gibsons...
You can get multiple version of mandolins for different sounds, like many here have pointed out. If I want to equate it to guitar, it would be like having a Martin, Gibson and Taylor acoustics for...
Great story. Even though you have moved the Gibson on, I still have to admire you for holding onto it for so long. Unfortunately for some of us, instrument trading becomes too much of a "thing". Have...
Wait, now I'm confused. I thought DW Cooper was the stage name for DW Washburn?

If I did have a copy, I couldn't tell you. ;)
Another novel worth reading with a lot of music woven into the fabric is The Little Country by Charles de Lint.
If you can find it, get the collected Silver John short stories. They are much better, IMO.
Yes, Mandolin in America is a good book. Lots of pictures but good text. I just picked up a copy of...
That is cool. Unfortunately, with that description there is no way it could be exported. Surprised the seller stated what they think the bridge saddle could be.
Also, why start the bass side...
True, but in at least one of my bands, they prefer the tone from the PrimeTone over a similar BC. Don't know why.
As to Wegen, have had a love/hate relationship with them since the Bluegrass...
The app Metronomerous is my present go to. It can do different beats which works for things liks Swedish polska rhythm. Also still have a small wind up Wittner and an ancient digital Seiko DM-10. The...
Polishing/cleaning cloth, tuner, spare 2032 batteries (usually 2 to 4), full set of spare strings, extra A and E strings, small tin with extra picks, strap.
If it's a gig then also a spare tuner....
