Re: Visit to Carter Vintage Guitars

Were you looking at one of those archtop Northfield octaves? Those look just gorgeous. Nice to hear from someone who wasn't blown away by them. It helps to keep my feet on the ground.
  3. Re: Live From Here - Is There a Better Music Show ANYWHERE?

I'm a little embarassed to say I stopped listening to the show at least a decade before Garrison Keilor retired, and I haven't come back since Chris took over. I would add it to my podcasts in a...

    Re: Musician Jokes

I had to do an image search to figure out what the heck these were supposed to be (finger tip protectors, apparently). Ignoring how silly they are in general, why does the hand model need one on his...

  6. Re: Live From Here - Is There a Better Music Show ANYWHERE?

Just to balance out the thread, I'm a huge Chris Thille fan. I think he brings as big a bag of tricks to a fiddle tune as anyone I've ever heard, and has terrific versatility. Love to hear him play...

    NERD FIGHT!

I kid, y'all. I went to high school in the 80's in a place where I had zero access to accoutic music, Marty Stuart's hair would have seemed sort of tame, and I was subjected to Van...

    Re: Levon Helm on Letterman

Must me some kind of algorhythm that's boosting it today, because I saw it a few minutes ago. I noticed the mandolin before I noticed who was holding it.

    Re: Naming your Mandolin

Nope. I don't name cars, guitars, mandolins or bodily organs. I only rarely bother to name the housecats I feed.

What's the deal with Vintage F4s?

I've always thought old Gibson F4s were gorgeous mandolins, but I've never played one and don't know much about them. For example, how would y'all characterize the tone of these? And why does a...

    Re: HOUSTON Jams

I wondered where the Hickory Hollow jam relocated to. Eric at Fuller's said they were continuing it at the new HH location, but I never attempted to track it down. I'm usually good for a few fiddle...

I really enjoyed reading this and watching your videos (as well as Kym's!). I had an MT for a couple of years back in the day, and always wondered how they differed from an MT2, other than the...

    Re: Fiddolin ??????

It's a little bit mad science-y and I can respect that. We're all of us a little bit outside the mainstream, or we wouldn't be here. That said, I can't see that there's a wild clamor for a...

Re: This must be a joke

Reminds me of the guy who listed Norman Blake's 12-fret D-28 for $3 million bucks (or whatever he wanted for it). It was outrageous, but it only takes one buyer to make a sale. (Not that he sold...

Recognizing you have a problem is the first step. I remind you of the words of the social philosopher who taught us that: "A gentleman is someone who can play the banjo, but choses not to." Was it...

Congrats! I have a Pava A that I love. At one point in the past I owned an Ellis F5 deluxe, but that was just too much and too fancy for either my budget or ability. Every once in a while I think...

  23. Re: Brooks Cove Bash, Chandler NC (near Asheville) 8/10

D'oh! You're correct. I'm not from the area, although I could see moving out that way some day if the stars align. Funny how the brain can add and subtract letters that way. I've had a note from...
  24. Brooks Cove Bash, Chandler NC (near Asheville) 8/10

Probably a long-shot, but is anyone going to this little music/picking festival near Asheville NC this weekend? I will be out there with a guitar looking for folks to pick fiddle tunes with.

    Re: New Strap!

I pulled out a bunch of paracord this morning to try this out. I've got an old Gibson A1 with a heel button that currently has an exceptionally ugly and uncomfortable strap on it.
