    Re: Thank You, Collings

No, it isn’t the fact that it was bought new, it’s the fact that it’s a Collings. I have seen them make things right on any instrument they make, regardless if you are the original owner. If they...
  2. Re: Ellis Torch and Wire in todays classified.

Having played both, I would take the Collings home. Sweet sounding, plenty of volume and with a bit more presence.

    Re: Mandolin Close Ups

Lou Stiver does all the mandolin work for Acoustic Music Works in Pittsburgh. You might call there also and see if they have anyone else they can recommend.

Re: Visit to Carter Vintage Guitars

I’ll second the emotion on the flattop Northfield. They are hard to find, and maybe that’s why. You see batches of them being made and none in shops (at least not for long anyway).

    Re: Waterloo Mandolin Released

Tom, I’m referring to the one I have which was in the first batch to come out of Austin. But if anyone is expecting the same neck as you’d find on an MT, they are going to be disappointed.

    Re: Waterloo Mandolin Released

The neck is not a Collings neck. The neck is much larger and rounder, like an old Kalamazoo.

Check with the folks at the North Conway Music Center. They may have a jam there. Tamworth Lyceum (in Tamworth) used to have something on Sundays. Shaina Aisenberg also had a string band that used...

Re: High Quality Short Scale Tenor Guitar?

I have a Girouard tenor, which is tuned GDAE. Sounds great in that tuning. I also have a Collings tenor tuned CGDA. The Collings is a longer scale, but I have found that you need to play around...
  12. Re: Lehigh Valley, PA - Jams and Clubs for the BG, OT etc newcome

Brad, Bethlehem is the home of Godfrey Daniels, which is a very well known folk club. It's also a college town, so there have to be jams in that area. They do offer some jam opportunities

  13. Re: Can Anyone Shed Light on this Fiddle Embellishment?

I went to a workshop given by Jenna Moynihan this past Saturday and she referred to these types of ornaments as an “interruption”. I’ve heard Kevin Burke say this also, but he was referring to rolls....

Good guy. Been around quite a while. I notice he has been selling instruments for Eli West. I think that’s his Blazer & Henkes guitar in the classifieds.

  24. Re: Campanella two-point (How to make an accent on due?)

I have a Due. I put D’Addario NB strings on it. But mine has a European top and is x-braced. You might try a 11.5 as an E. Don’t go down in gauge. As Bill says, it won’t improve the sound. You...
