    scale lengths

I just came across some Stahl propaganda that shows a family of instruments; mandolin, tenor mandola, bass mandolin, mando cello, mando bass.
Anyone know what scale lengths they would be?

    I...

Somebody must already have made the point that F styles must have been out of the world oddities when they first appeared.

Yeah, I didn't read the entire thread

  5. Re: Gibson mandocello one piece and two piece necks

Thanks John. If that's the case, when did truss rods come in?
I know the headstock is three piece.
  6. Re: Gibson mandocello one piece and three piece necks

    Well don't I feel silly!

Obviously three piece. And that's just the sort of thing I get wound up about.

At least I got it right when I asked in CBOM.
  7. Gibson mandocello one piece and two piece necks

Hi all, I asked this a couple days ago in CBOM but have only had one reply so far. Forgive me for posting the same twice.

When did Gibson make the change in mandocello neck construction?

    Thanks

Re: That Stitched band around a case lid

1.25 wide, is it to be folded down the centre?

I do like the tape idea, but using the adhesive to hold it to the tolex would be a benefit, no?

    Re: Patriotic WW1 German Mandolin

Well about six times as many British solders were killed, and ten times as many German. :(
    Ugly from every angle.

Anyone notice this mando was built before the US entered the war?
  11. Re: Gibson one piece and three piece mandocello necks

Could be. Depends on when the made the change.

    Re: Patriotic WW1 German Mandolin

It seems odd to in 1916 inlay just 14,15,16 with the war ongoing. No though to the future? Could certainly be.
I wonder if those were the years the owner was in the military, perhaps injured in '16...

Well now that I've taken a look $300 seems to be the current asking.

I'm resisting the $75 Stadium on ebay.

    Re: 1930 Stradolin

There seem to have been a lot of them on ebay the past few months. If the seller used those as a price guide, then they looked at the highest priced. That might be about 3x going price.

Re: Help to learn about this old mandolin

There was one on ebay a few weeks ago, no label or pickguard. $50 I think. There was one on Craigslist or Facebook here a while before that. I'll see if I can find it and let you know.
