Re: Am I being to Critical on New Mandolin

I would suggest not buying an instrument from Amazon.
Pay a few bucks more and get one from a reputable dealer who will inspect and setup the instrument before shipping.
That'd go a long way to...

Re: Am I being to Critical on New Mandolin

"bear claws" in wood are natural and common. Many builders will look for clean grain but some don't. Lower level instruments certainly receive lower grades of wood and lower levels of quality...

Re: What’s going on with this bridge?

It might have issues in the fingerboard, but it might also just need to be properly setup. You can do it yourself if you're reasonably handy.

    Re: Looking For Morris Tuners

Hopefully they are standard size for the hole spacing. 23mm.
Measure from the center of one shaft to the next.
If so, you have plenty of good options.
    My favorite are Rubner tuners.
    $69 and up...

Re: Changed back to nickel-silver frets

I'm a fan of EVO frets. I play for a few hours every day and standard nickel silver frets wear too quickly. When I need a refret on an instrument, I get EVO medium. If I have an instrument built for...

  12. Re: Newbie: Which electric-acoustic to buy?

I've owned 5 Eastman mandolins, from the 300 level to the 800 and 900 level. The one that sounded best to me was an MD-505. All instruments vary individually. Eastman is producing high quality...
  13. Re: Newbie: Which electric-acoustic to buy?

The Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 will do the impedance matching. No need to add a preamp. I was unaware that you had something like that already. Sweet piece of kit!
Acoustic amps should also be fine...
  14. Re: Newbie: Which electric-acoustic to buy?

    Nope.
It'll be a passive pickup just like the one they would install in the MD305.

You can save some coin by buying a JJB pickup instead of the K&K, but the installation costs will be the same....

Re: Nylon strings on Blueridge BR40T?

I'm not sure how you'll be able to use nylon strings since the bridge is made for ball end strings. I strum my steel string guitar and tenor with my fingers. I think you just need to get used to it....
  18. Re: Tuners for Collings MT Mandolin (A Style)

I had no issues at all with the Rubner tuners.

  20. Re: Tuners for Collings MT Mandolin (A Style)

  21. Re: how much should I offer for this mandolin
