    Re: Magnus Zetterlund

Yes I think he's very good.
I always enjoyed this 2009 video of Nordic Trio at Urkult.

  3. Re: No mando content: Remembering Ginger Baker

I was a huge Cream fan and they really inspired me to play lead guitar, which was my main thing as a teenager, and actually, their instrumental workouts did lead me into modern jazz.

    I am still a...

Changing the subject slightly, I have to say that when Byron Berline's music shop burnt down but his Loar mandolin survived would seem to me to the ultimate story here....

    Re: Octave Mandolin History

    Thanks Marty.

It's interesting to see that the 'modern cittern' pictured in your Sobell article only has 8 strings (as opposed to 10).

In recent years the word 'cittern' seems to now mostly...

    Re: CBOMS in Ireland

I've found this thread to be very interesting, highlighting Irish makers whose work is not often discussed here (and indeed those who are more familiar to me like Joe Foley). It appears to be exactly...

    Re: CBOMS in Ireland

Have a look at Moloneys music shop in Galway.
They seem to sell instruments made by a couple of local Irish luthiers plus some by a Portuguese maker, which look quite good value on the face of it.

Mandolin Cafe has lists of builders, so the listing for Ireland is probably a good place to start.

Yes I went there in March, to a Group Workshop led by Spanish musician Efren Lopez, of whom I am a huge fan. There were only 5 of us along with Efren.

Ullapool is a cool little town I would recommend. There is very often good (and I stress good- the folks there do know, and musicians like to play there) music at The Ceilidh Place.

  16. 2 10-string Sobell mandolins for sale

No financial interest, but unusually there are two 10 string mandolins for sale at the moment on Stefan's 'Available now' page.

    I have a cedar/rosewood one from 1984. Best buy I ever did.

    Re: Brid Harper Jig Fingering

I think it is significant in the case of this tune that it is the key of Dm, and therefore you will be playing notes on the first fret.
