  1. Re: Peter Ostroushko and Danny Gotham. 10/18/2007

Danny Gotham is active as a guitar and mandolin playing musician and music teacher in the Chapel Hill, NC area. He sold his Nugget to Andrew Marlin (now plays a Northfield). Several years ago he...

    Re: My MAS is cured.

Having sworn I would adhere to a "one in, one out" policy, I now am in a situation where I can't decide which one should go out. Might have to break my oath and leave those decisions to the kids.

    Re: 1992 Nugget A Deluxe #155

That is one nice-looking Nugget A5 Deluxe- love the inlay on the headstock. Bet it sounds great and will find a buyer.
  4. Re: Advice/Suggestions on characteristics of an ideal mandolin st

Definitely no metal! I'd avoid hard plastic as well, for concern about marking up the mandolin if you put the strap in the case with your mandolin. I usually buy a 2-pack of rawhide 48" shoelaces...

Re: Do You Baby Your Mandolin?

I use my instruments, but don't abuse them. I definitely don't abuse them, but the ones that I play have all gotten that first ding that I put on them, even the older instruments that I bought used....
  6. Re: Carbon Fiber Builder wants our input on a Carbon Fiber Mandol

There will never be a new (or old, for that matter) mandolin that pushes all the buttons for everybody. I know I've sold some relatively high-end mandolins that just didn't have it for me but...

Re: NMD Gibson A-1 from 1912!

IrishPicker10: That is certainly a well-preserved >100 year old Gibson! I hope you play the potatoes out of it. It may pick up some distressing, but it needs - is begging - to be played hard!

    Re: 1987 Gibson F5L

I agree with Len - if I were in the market for a new mandolin, I would snap that up in a moment's notice. The back is psychedelic! And these instruments almost always sound great.

    Re: Mandolin Cafe hats

I've lost a few and given a few away over the years - sometimes I'll order 2 at a time when they come up. The limited runs usually sell out. I think I've currently got a red and a black cloth...

Re: Northfield Airloom Recurve with A-style

I have one for "about the town" use and fits my Nugget A, also an Ellis twin point. When I travel out of town, I use a Calton for maximal protection.
  11. Not Our First Goat Rodeo at Red Rocks Amphitheater

Great show in a wonderful venue last night. You could tell how amped up the group was, and a very appreciative crowd after months without or with a paucity of live music. I hope venues can stay...

    Re: Foam rubber armrest?

I too would be concerned about a naked foam pad's effect on a nitro finish or making an imprint on new varnish. You could make a "pillow cover" to protect the finish, at the expense of interfering...

    Re: Nut Width Preference?

I have owned and/or played a variety of guitars with huge variance in nut widths and neck profiles and different scale lengths, from a 1 11/16 30's huge sharp V neck L-00, 40's & 50s club neck...

And here I thought that you were going to make a case for playing a big pot banjo mandolin! You want a case to carry it in... I'm disappointed. :mandosmiley:

Re: Powerful A models in the 5K range
