I agree that sound clips/videos are an immensely useful tool when shopping. For many of us, traveling to demo an instrument just isn't possible. While most reputable shops (and even private sellers)...
So sorry to see this! Yet, also glad D'Addario is quick to serve their customers.
I've been using Humidipaks for years in both guitar and mandolin cases. Haven't had any issues so far.
Wishing...
For what it's worth, Thile playing Bach on the Dude.

CT55. Had Wegen 140s (I think) when I lost the BC, but I had to go back. Just my preference for size, tone, and overall feel.
Congrats on the new mandolin! I ordered mine new from Will (#220). I remember playing the first few notes and thinking, "Man, Will nailed the tone."
And more competitively priced. Going with a custom build from a single luthier ended up being cheaper than ordering a comparable model through Gibson.
Very interesting. Glad I got my Kimble Fern when I did!
Begs the question though...is Gibson really going to pursue legal action again every maker that uses (or has used) both the Fern and F5...
I've never had issue with the weight. Just something I got used to quite easily.
With regards to the CT video, I got to see #75316 up close after a show at the Largo in Los Angeles. It looked...
I love the EXP74CMs. Used to play J74s and wanted to give the mixed gauges a try. Don't think I'll be switching back. String life has been excellent, and they don't have the super slick feel like...
Best I've played and own is my Kimble #220. Absolutely blows me away every time I open the case. Couldn't be happier that I pulled the trigger and ordered it. Two others that really stood out were...
The information you're referring to is in an interview somewhere. Don't recall if it's the FB Journal article or one later (I think there's on here on the Cafe actually). From what I recall he used...
Thank you Peter and Lynn for making this available to us again. I'm no builder, but I marvel at the process. This is simply wonderful.
Very nice! Will's two-point design is incredibly classy. I'm absolutely loving my Kimble F5. That's quite the pair you've got. Happy playing!
And if you don't mind me chiming in...Mr. Denman...
Love them! I've not purchased an instrument there, but had a pickup installed in my former Breedlove and setup done as well. They're top notch. I'd recommend Dennis and the team to anyone who's in...
I've lost 2 BCs (found one of them months later. No clue how, just stumbled upon it). I keep on in my case in the pocket and the other in a leather pick holder on my key ring. That way there's one...
YES! Thank you!!! Can't wait to give these a try.
Seems to open up a little bit more every day. Very subtle. The tone is crisp, clear, and even across the strings/up the fretboard. I jumped down from a 1-3/16" nut on my Breedlove to 1-1/16" on the...
On Tuesday I received Kimble #220! I was apprehensive about ordering a mandolin blind, but Will exceeded my expectations and was very easy to work with. Here are a few quick photos, and please...
While my exposure to the greater world of mandolin music is rather limited, I'm seriously digging "Bass & Mandolin" from Thile and Meyer. Stunning in so many ways.
"Classifieds" are to the left of "Forum" on the bar underneath the Mandolin Cafe banner. On the upper left of the screen, top of the page.
If I remember correctly, the Dude you're referencing is #5. To my knowledge he still has it, just doesn't use it for live shows any longer. I agree that that particular instrument has something...
If I read the headstock correctly, looks like I'll be the owner of Kimble #220. Just got the photo from Will today.

I love that program. I've been using the free version for some time just to learn some bluegrass standards. I agree that being able to control the playback speed is immensely helpful in practicing....
That description is just...wonderful. "Variety of tones to make a variety of compositions". Solid.
