Since originally posting this thread I have bought a LM 520. I could not be happier with my purchase. I cannot imagine ANY other mandolin in this price range can stand up to this instrument,...

    Re: Good beginner mandolin

You've had it for a few days, the strings should be broken in enough to hold tune for a while. Obviously you will tune everytime you pick up the instrument but it should stay in tune pretty well...

Does the poly finish effect how the instrument "opens up" over time?
  9. Re: Found a mandolin for sale, want to know if its a good one!

I know you see "set up" harped on here and it may seem trivial but it is vital. As mandolin lovers we hate to see a "newbie" get turned off because they get an instrument that is not playable.
    I...
  10. Re: I am so glad I there was mandolin content to be shared!

Can't say I enjoyed the music but I was entertained. Do you have the tabs for the Ace of Spades? J/k funny, thanks for posting.
  11. Re: Found a mandolin for sale, want to know if its a good one!

Not a seasoned mandolin vet but would like to put in my 2 cents. A local guitar store sells Savannahs and I've fooled with then a bit. If you have 80 bucks to gamble it's not a bad bet, the ones I've...

Can anyone review the Loar LM 520

The dream of many an economically challenged mandolinist is the ever illusive quality F style for under $500. Sure, we all hold out hope that we will come across the uneducated pawn broker or deal to...

    Re: Luna Trinity mandolins

My mistake, I should have said "Other Pac-Rims". I assume they are Chinese, that is if the "Made In China" sticker on the back of the head stock is accurate :)
