    Re: Reading suggestions

I finally got around to this one. Read it via audiobook (the reader did a great job) and thoroughly enjoyed. What a crazy life, and what a mess Ira was, poor fellow. I enjoyed learning about...

This thread reminded me that I’ve still not read the book, so I hopped over to my local library app and found it on audiobook and just downloaded. (If you don’t know about the CloudLibrary app, it’s...

    Re: Which Budget Fingerstyle Guitar?

This is the Golden Age of guitars. The options and quality are insane when compared to what was available in the past. I played a $130 Recording King Dirty 30 once that could have easily become a...

    Re: D'addario strings (Consistent breakage)

D’Addarios are the standard in the mandolin world for whatever reason, but there are a bunch of road-less-traveled brands. Trying them all out is part of the fun. I’ve pretty much tried them all...

Hello from HEB! - about ten minutes from DFW airport. Not really mandolin country around here but it's home.

Re: My mandolin got eaten by a Stratocaster.

Very good point. I’m not sure why this combination works so well for the tone I like but it does. Serendipity.

Re: My mandolin got eaten by a Stratocaster.

I like Fender amps but this Marshall is perfect for the sound I’m going for. I can get a 50s rock/blues tone with no pedals.

    Re: Chinese made mandolins (Northfield?)

I see your joint date is 2002; there was still a very real stigma in the acoustic world about “Made in China” (or anywhere other than the USA) then. I used to see this a lot on the guitar forums in...

As someone who has played alone (with very few exceptions throughout the years) for almost 30 years, this is hard for me to understand. I have loved playing with other people when it has happened,...

Re: My mandolin got eaten by a Stratocaster.

This should have been titled the "Midlife Meltdown" thread. I kept the Les Paul for a while and enjoyed it, but I honestly felt like a hack with a LP in my hands. I guess because I was an 80s kid,...
  18. Re: When did you realize mandolin was your primary instrument?

I also had a MIM Stratocaster that I'd had for years. It was setup/modded to the point of being a pretty amazing instrument. I convinced myself around 2006/7 that I'd not play it anymore and sold...

Re: All of My 2020 Festivals Have Been Cancelled

I really feel for all the musicians who can’t work now. I’m sure in many (most?) cases, making a living as a musician was tough anyway (unless you’re super famous, which is pretty much no one in the...

Re: Comfy in our new RV

I’ve been renting RVs for family vacations for a while now—it’s the best way to travel. I’ve driven up both coasts and spent quite a bit of time in the NE. Fun times!
