Re: Post a picture of what's on your bench?

What an odd thing to say, SBJ!

Re: D'Addario EXP 75 vs. EXPCM?

I'm with you on the D'Addario snob thing, 'though I did prefer Mangan for their monel before returning (as I invariably do) to the D'Addario 74 series in their all their various prefixes.
  4. Re: Happy 75th Birthday Today, David Grisman!

That's poetry, Mike. Oh, and you're no slouch, either, just by the way!
  5. Re: Happy 75th Birthday Today, David Grisman!

I'm only picking Dawg songs today. :mandosmiley:
  6. Re: Happy 75th Birthday Today, David Grisman!

Happy 75th, David. Still remembering your (and Pamela's) generosity and accommodation all those years ago.
Thank you for all the music you have thus far produced, played, influenced, and...

    Re: D'Addario EXP75 R.I.P. -vs- EXPCM R.I.P.

Silly- dragons haven't been around since...who's doing their coating, anyway? Santa or the bunny?:whistling:

Seriously, though, I imagine most EXP users will simply migrate to its replacement, the...

Re: D'Addario EXP 75 vs. EXPCM?

It's moot, as the EXP line is discontinued. They have been superseded by the new XT line of coated strings, so any dealer stock of EXP will not be replenished. If you're a die-hard fan, I say fill...

Re: D'Addario EXP 75 vs. EXPCM?

All mandolins are not created equal. The same goes for their (sets of) strings with their various gauges and materials.

Viola = fretless mandola, n'est pas?
  12. Re: Grover? Gotoh? Schaller? Golden Age Mandolin Tuners?

From Gotoh direct via their site, with a minimum order requirement.
  13. Re: Grover? Gotoh? Schaller? Golden Age Mandolin Tuners?

The staggered length shafts are a Gotoh MF40 option that suits the Collings peghead.
  14. Re: RUBNER Mandolin Tuners

Rubner are making a comeback bid in an attempt to fill the gap between 'budget' and 'deluxe' tuners. Recovering from their fire damage, I am informed that they are on track to release their all new...

    Re: Newly installed Schaller tuners

    Jim~
Your A course strings may be binding up in their slots. Very gingerly drawing the correct slot file through them should clear that right up. Bon chance!

Pretty. Is that a three piece top?
  20. Re: How does this happen to a 1924 A-2 at the factory?

I'm sure they were always trying to reach their shipping quota, Mike. In that scenario, someone else must have drilled the post holes too low, leaving said 'old guy' mounting the tuners sets with...
  21. Re: How does this happen to a 1924 A-2 at the factory?

I see. Gibson re-framing is everything.
  22. Re: How does this happen to a 1924 A-2 at the factory?

Were they doing that as far back as 1924?

    Re: Northfield mandolins

You scored there, by the sound of it. Well done, you.
  24. How does this happen to a 1924 A-2 at the factory?

If anyone has thoughts on this (I knew you would), please chime in. Are there (m)any others like this?
I noticed this anomaly on these photos of a 1924 A-2 black face and wondered how it came to be...
