    Re: New Dunlop Pick?

There is such a thing as trade dress. I'm not sure how it applies to picks. The sculpted Primetones I have and the CT55 seem to me to have exactly the same shape and graduation of bevel. It doesn't...

    Re: New Dunlop Pick?

Since I'm stateside I have ordered several mandolin-related things that are hard to come by in the US. I ordered a 3 pack of the Primetone 1.4 sculpted, and also ordered a Bluechip CT55 with the...

    Re: Gibson case questions

I wanted a very light but reasonably protective case. I have the very heavyweight TKL case for situations that need it. I've already received the Travelite case and it's just what I wanted. Thanks...

    Re: Gibson case questions

Thanks again everyone, I ended up ordering the Travelite case and it's on its way. I'm currently visiting the US. Also placed an order for those elusive Primetone picks from Dunlop, and a Blue Chip...

    Re: Pick guard for Goldrush

The pick guard looks great! I can't wait for it to be installed. The wood is really nice, and you can see the grain in the ebony. It has a few places along the edge that actually have a tortoise...

    Re: Tabs vs. reading music

As someone who reads notation very well, I found tab very very hard to pick up but I'm glad I put in the effort. I had to find things in tab only or else I would "cheat" and only read the notation....
  8. Re: Steve Smith at Cumberland Acoustic

He was very helpful and very prompt making a custom pickguard for my Goldrush! It's waiting on me for when I'm in the US next week. I think it took him less than 3 days!
  9. Re: He is... the most interesting mandolin player in the world...

    My favorite.

    Re: Farewell Robin!!!

I guess you get to a point where you'd do anything not to use again. He had very recently been in rehab.

    Re: Tabledit! Newbies, read this!

You won't be able to do that. A PDF is effectively the same thing as taking a photo or scan of a printed tab. You will need to put it in by hand.

    Re: Pick guard for Goldrush

I'm amazed you shipped it so quickly! I won't be able to see it for a couple weeks when I'm in the US but I'm impressed with the helpfulness and customer service from your company!
  13. Re: Fretted notes are sharper than open strings?

I think if you fret too hard (push down on the string too hard), you can stretch the string and make it go sharp. Could you be doing that?

    Re: Hand/Wrist/Arm pain

That's awesome! Can you describe any of the exercises or the changes he has had you make, for those of us who don't have easy access to such a person?

    Re: Understanding a tab

The one with the line over it with the 1 is the first ending. The first time you play the part before it, play that measure before you go back to the beginning. The second time through, play the...

    Re: Pick guard for Goldrush

Thanks so much for that info, Steve! Did you have problems with the guards warping at all? Seems that some folks reported that. If I order one from you, how long is it likely to take to be made? I...

  20. Re: VIDEO: Jim Gaudet & The Railroad Boys - Ink My Name

Is it some kind of irony that the bass player so often has the highest singing voice in the ensemble?

    Re: Current Gibson Mandos

Wow, regardless of how you guys feel about Gibson, the OP posted to show their enthusiasm for their new mando. It seems a bit mean-spirited to try to diminish that. :(
  22. Re: VIDEO: Jim Gaudet & The Railroad Boys - Ink My Name

That was fun. It cracked me up every time they rhymed "arm" with "harm". Is it the bass player or the banjo with the nice falsetto?
  23. Re: My Beautiful Mandolin Friend (Alison Stephens)

Thanks for the pointer to the tune a day project! I've saved them to work on. :) I even played through My Beautiful Mandolin Friend several times. What a beautiful piece!
