Re: Column: Where is Bluegrass Headed?

The only way for a genre to survive is for young people to play it. Inevitably, if they take an interest, they will place their own interpretations on the music and it will change. I personally...
  2. Re: Festival help for someone living overseas. Which ones!

If you have a connection in NC, I would consider the Wernick camp in Boomer NC, which is the week of Merlefest (mon to to Thursday) and then go to Merlefest after. You will get plenty of jamming at...

Re: Special Ellis w/Torch and Wire

I love my Ellis mandolin. The making of it is a wonderful mystery to me but the finished product gives me tremendous pleasure every day.

Re: Don't Let Your Deal Go Down

That is a great solo! Well done.
  9. Re: Today the Mandolin Cafe - tomorrow the world!

If the world were run by mandolinists, they would jam up everything and nothing else would get done.......

    Sounds good to me!
  10. Re: Addition to MP3 page - The Bills, Mando Coloured Glasses

That was cool. Evolution of a theme.

Thanks for the heads up John! I just skimmed the previews on DC baby. I'm going to have to get this one.

    Re: Pick Guards

One of mine has a pick guard and I like it although I'm not a pinkey planter. I sort of gently brush over the top and the pick guard is a nice tactile feedback. Looks wise, I like the small elegant...

Re: St Anne never sounded this good!

Thanks for the info! I guess I just assumed. Apologies to St Anne, Canada and Ireland.

St Anne never sounded this good!

Ok, hyperbole, but I really like this. Joe Walsh is one of my favorite mandolinists and Courtney Hartman is spectacular. I am seriously considering Joe's Peghead Nation course. Maybe this should...

    Re: Ask a stupid question

That is a cool picture Ivan. I guess you have to know St Anne's reel! I must say it wouldn't qualify as a "sunny Saturday" around here. Looks chilly.
  16. Re: Emory Lester, At Dusk, with his Northfield-beautiful

Awesome. I have some of his albums also and I share your opinion. MarK Johnson is a great player too. I enjoyed their set at Merlefest.
  17. Re: Dr. Banjo (ya I know but my question is about Mandolin!)

I can highly recommend the Merlefest Jam camp. You will get hooked on Jamming with others. Huge range in skill levels amongst attendees. Some of the kids will blow your mind.

Re: Colling's MF as a gift?

Nice. That's a great mandolin. I'm sure she will be thrilled! I wish you both a lifetime of happiness.

Re: Colling's MF as a gift?

I'm going to disagree slightly with the above - regarding having to make your girlfriend play the mandolin that you choose - if you are going for a Collings or similar quality. A Collings is a great...

Re: Mandozine Radio on TuneIn Radio Platform

I would urge all cafe members to give it a listen. The mix is eclectic from Jazz, to classical to folk, to bluegrass. Its a great way to find something new.

    Re: Mandozine Radio: 10 Years

This New Years weekend I listened to Mandozine radio for the first time. The selection was so good that even my extended family of non - mandolin people commented on the "playlist".

    Re: A style suspension answer

Very nice design. You should patent that. I don't think rawhide will hurt the finish. Vinyl will hurt.
