  1. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

The only thing I have seen Gibson do on the mandolin side of things over the years was to send nasty grams to a few builders regarding the flower pot, nasty grams to a few distributors over the bell...
  2. Re: Gibson Shipping Ledger - November 29, 1951

I know what it is but in relationship to this conversation, if Bill wasn't using his F5 in 1949 then where was it? Maybe at Gibson awaiting repairs that didn't complete until it was shipped back in...
  3. Re: Gibson Shipping Ledger - November 29, 1951

I doubt many fans would have known he wasn't playing his regular mandolin. More people heard him on the radio and on records than ever saw him in person.
  4. Re: Gibson Shipping Ledger - November 29, 1951

This image has been posted a few times on Mac's Bluegrass Era on Facebook and it is labeled "1949: BLUEGRASS BOYS: JACK THOMPSON, CHUBBY WISE, MAC WISEMAN, RUDY LYLE, WITH "THE GREAT BILL"". I have...

  6. Re: Are Lilliputians allowed to sell on ebay?

If you really wanted the case you could have picked it up for a fraction of the cost. Check out this thread. I bought one of these and it came with the bag.

    Did Elvis prefer the scroll?

I've been looking for this picture for years. Apparently I shoved it out onto a server at work on a project to use as an example image.

    Elvis digging the scroll.
  8. Re: Are Lilliputians allowed to sell on ebay?

If they were selling the guitar I'd buy that.

Re: Cleaning Mold From Inside a Guitar?

If the Microban doesn't do the job and since it's already apart and I'm sure will need some major work I would consider some sort of enclosure (outside your house or shop) where you could enclose the...

  12. Re: How did you feel about your new build Mando?

To be totally honest, some people shouldn't take this plunge. Simply ordering a custom built instrument might not make you happy and I'm sure every custom builder would rather have a customer coming...
  13. Re: oddball (pseudo?-) resonator w. amusing "professional" setup

We've already seen this or one set up the same way. The only thing I could think of was that maybe they played it with a slide. It makes no sense.

    Re: error

The easiest way is to simply copy the address from the top bar of your browser of the video you want to post. It would look like this:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OsPs0V9hmA

    You can embed...

You should get Hubert's book. It really changed the way most of us looked at L&H.

Re: Source for f style worm over tuners

Sometime in the mid-1920's someone figured out that having the worm gear on a set of tuners above the cog would cause the string to pull the cog into the worm gear instead of away from it and the...

I'll note that the Ingles folds flat as well. It's a heavy little thing though

Cafe member Travellerbytrade (Joyce) is writing a book about Orville Gibson. I believe she has done some research on the addresses. You might want to send her a PM.

    Re: Mandolin Stand Recommendations

My preference has been the Ingles stand for years, Well made. Ignore that hook for the bow. You can lower it or remove it all together.

Anything with any value that can be faked will be faked someplace. I'm pretty familiar with Fake Gibson's. These not so much.

I seem to recall that in the early days Stewmac offered more versions of the Waverly F style tuners. I'm probably imagining that. Either that or someone simply reversed a set and Sam just tunes it...
