  5. Re: Speaker size for 4-string emando amplifier

I use a Quilter Micro Pro and like it for gigging. My fav amp all time tho was a 66 Ampeg Gemini 6 with a 15” Jensen Alnico speaker from the mid 50’s. It was perfect with my 5 string Mann. If it...

  10. Re: So I guess I'll practice scales some more....

There are a good number of us who prefer big wide frets and/or arched finger boards. Can help one play cleaner.

Of course the BEST thing is focused practice on tone. Can’t ever short cut that.

    Re: help with leading notes

Voice leading is usually notes that are 1 fret (1/2 step) apart when another. The most common example is V7 back to I, the most common clash resolve sound in music. Here are the notes in the...

    Re: Shell Chords on mandolin

    C7 you may have meant 6 3 2 X EADG. D6 is 7 5 4 X so I assume you mean that. I use these plus your G7 and A7 a good bit.

In my study, the term “shell voicing” in theory textbooks means 1, 3, 7...
  13. Re: Tennis elbow in the picking arm - how to avoid it?

One other thing that helps me a lot when I get elbow tendinitis is Gua Sha. Look up “Gua Sha elbow’ on youtube. Several good videos there.
  14. Re: Tennis elbow in the picking arm - how to avoid it?

NEVER play through pain. I know a few great players who will never be able to play again as they tried to ‘play through the pain’.

In my book any discomfort is the body telling you to evaluate...

    RIP Barry Harris

The great pianist passed away yesterday. I had the privilege to study with his online weekly sessions for about 18 months. Learned a lifetime worth of material to practice.

    Re: Tendonitis and string gauges

A good way to practice new voicings for me is bounce back and forth between two chord voicings, one i know well and a new one. I just BARELY touch the strings on both, keeping all un-needed tension...

    Re: Tendonitis and string gauges

The core thickness on the wound strings plays a big part in the feel of the tension. I know the old Gibson Monels said the G was 41 or 42, but it played much lighter to my feel. Found out later the...

    Re: Tendonitis and string gauges

It is very common for overuse injuries to come on when someone ups their workload and/or muscle force used in their practice by a good amount in a short period of time. Has happened to me several...
  21. Re: Routines for keeping your technique in shape

    Re: Arpeggio's

C is the flat sixth or sharp fifth in the key of E, C# is the sixth. An Em6 chord would be E G B C#. For the notes C E G B, the most used place would be in jazz as a CMaj7 chord.
