You can also thread a loop-end string through a spare ball. I do that to get octave mandolin strings on my electric tenor guitar.
I just got one of these a couple of weeks ago. It is so much better than the Snark I was using beforehand. Much faster to identify the string you're tuning and a nicer screen, too.

If you voice C as 5230 and F 5301 then you can pin your ring finger on the 5 and that puts you in a comfortable position to switch between them.
