    I think I have a problem...

I would consider myself to be a beginner mandolinist, I know a few songs and I am able to read sheet music, but I'm nothing great. Over the past year or two I have picked up several different...

Re: Eastman MD315 Top Heavy... Solutions?

I hold the mandolin the same way as in the video. Maybe I'm just not used to it, but it seems like anytime I stop applying downward pressure with my right forearm then the head droops down. Maybe...

    Eastman MD315 Top Heavy... Solutions?

    Greetings!

I just purchased an MD315 and I am very happy with it. However, when I put a strap on it, the head of the mandolin goes down which is very annoying. Other than attaching the strap to...

    Re: Eastman MD315 Repair Question

It is hard to tell exactly what is happening. Is it a surface scratch or is the back of the mandolin separating from the sides? Do you think this affects the playability or is just cosmetic?

    Hello fellow luthiers,

I am awaiting shipment of this mandolin and I am wondering how you would suggest fixing the damage on the side of the mandolin. I was going to use matching stain to cover...

Re: Advice Please: 1984 Epiphone MM70

I am no expert with vintage epiphone mandolins at all, but personally I would rather have a new eastman at the same price.

    Re: First Timer

It is normal for a mandolin to need to be retuned once in a while (everyday, or after an hour of playing, etc.), but if you can't make it through a song without it staying it tune it can be because...

    Re: First Timer

A decent setup can turn any mandolin into a great beginners instrument. I have a $49 Rogue that I still use as a beater/practice mandolin.

  14. Re: Where to learn the art of mandolin making?

The violin is a 1900s/late 1800s Russian violin made under the name "Schuster" in St. Petersberg. I am not a violinist so I cannot comment on the tone, but I am happy how it came out.

I have attached an example of my work. This violin had 8 cracks that I repaired and I did a complete restoration on it down to a french polish finish.
  16. Where to learn the art of mandolin making?

I consider myself to be an amateur luthier. I am able to do proper set-ups on guitars and mandolins and have restored several instruments (I am working on an old Harmony right now). I am interested...

Re: Weber Aspen I or Eastman MD305?

Thank you for your quick reply. Do you think that $995 is a fair price for it? I know that the list price is $1299. What other mandolins should I look for in that price range?

    There is also a used...
