    Re: Remic microphones

Anytime I see a cable with XLR on one end and a mini on the opposite I get the impedance mismatch blues. Not always, but often it's a cable to be careful with.

Re: practice advice: speed vs repetoire

After far too many years as an intermediate player, I have to believe working on repertoire ultimately allows you to play faster. For me at least, pushing for speed was counterproductive. My friends...

Thanks for all of your comments. I'm registered and jazzed about being part of week 2. This should be the best possible start to my Montana summer. Music camp, birthday party (not mine) and trout...

    Re: Mandolin Try-out Etiquette

I've traded mandolins in jams more times than I can remember. In each case, mine came back to me in the same shape as when I handed it off. The irony is that I got a new guitar once and an old friend...

    Western Montana???

I'll be in Montana until about the 21st. Are there any open jams that I should consider. I'll be based in the Missoula area, but have car and mandolin.

    Re: Broken Tailpiece: Advice

The tailpiece failed on my Flatiron a few years ago too. I went the Allen route with no issues whatsoever.

Re: Travel with my vintage mandolin

I'm curious about how widespread CITES issues, specifically confiscations really are. I travel a lot for work and play, and nearly always carry a mandolin. Only rarely have I even been asked to open...

I believe there was a difference in sound. As I recall, it just got a little louder, with some low end changes. The changes were subtle, but I think they were real. The Allen tailpieces come in...

    Re: Flatiron A5-JR questions

Yeah, those tailpieces break. I have a '93 A5. One day I opened the case to find 8 string spaghetti inside. I replaced it with an Allen cast tailpiece and never looked back. Nice mandolin!

Pete, Spruce, Bill and others pointed out that the the M/F imbalance simply doesn't exist in the PNW. I can't remember the last time I attended a jam or party where there weren't women players. It...
