    Re: Sapele or Mahogany?

From my experience sapele smells alot like cedar when you cut into it, it's also a pain to bend. As far as tone is concerned there's really not a discernible difference between it and mahogany (to my...

    Re: Kit Building

The first instrument I built was a saga a style mandolin, it really wasn't too hard and turned out quite nice. Here's a thread I started about it...

    Re: Wrist Pain.

I looked up a Chris Thile video to see what you guys are talking about and I think I get it now. I need to move my thumb down and get that neck at a larger angle to the floor.

    Re: Wrist Pain.

That makes sense. I think part of the problem is my huge hands are having a hard time gripping that tiny little neck, I'm used to classical guitar necks and chunky acoustics.

    Wrist Pain.

Hi guys, I'm pretty new to the mandolin (I've only been playing for about a month) and recently I've noticed pain in my wrist whenever I play. At first it was just when I played mandolin, but now I'm...

Re: My mando build! (so far)

That's exactly what I did, forgot the headstock verneer. I was so thin I pulled it off with my fingers.

Re: My mando build! (so far)

Thanks for the compliment, but I can't take credit for the inlay. It was done by a friend of a mine. I really enjoyed building this little guy though, so more may be in my future.

Re: how to remove and replace tuner bushings

If you find a dowel or bolt that is the same size as the existing hole, you can place it in the back end of the hole and tap out out the bushing with a hammer. Maybe not the most elegant solution,...

Re: Price of restored 1907 Gibson?

I'm sorry I'm being vague, I'm not trying to be. I work in a shop where we repair various instruments, I only started working there after the mandolin came in so I'm not sure about the original...

Re: Price of restored 1907 Gibson?

It was in really bad shape before the refin, unplayable actually. It pretty much needed to be completely put back together again. I believe it has all the original hardware, not sure about the case...

    Price of restored 1907 Gibson?

I'm curious as to how much the refinished 1907 f-style Gibsons go for, figured this would be a good place to ask.

I've seen slight blue cloudiness in instruments from spraying a coat on top of another undried coat, but that doesn't look like the problem. My guess would be it needs to be stripped and resprayed,...
