    Re: NMD - Eastman 514

    Looks great, Dan!

I’m glad you finally scratched that itch to get a new mandolin.

You’ll be amazed how easily your hand flies around the fingerboard with the lower action.

    Enjoy!

Re: Learn how to solo / scales

I think this video from Lessons with Marcel has some really great info on building riffs and double stops from the pentatonic scale

    Re: Road Trip Part II

Great write up, Dan. Strings and Things is great.

You certainly wouldn’t be making a mistake with a 315. They sound great.

(I’m just a fancy shmancy fella, though. Hence my shiny sunburst 515)

    Favorite mandolin playing beverage?

Whatís your favorite drink that accompanies your mandolin playing?

For me, it depends on when Iím playing.

Weekday night after the wife and kids are asleep, Iíll have a tea on the side.

Very cool! I’ve always thought those were cool looking instruments. There’s something about the simplicity of them.

    Re: Road Trip

Good luck with the search, Dan!

I’ve been very satisfied with my standard 515. The only upgrade that I’ve done was installing a Cumberland Acoustics bridge.

Strings and Things is a great store....

Re: Live Mic for Mandolin Recommendations

I have the Rode M3, which is a small condenser mic with a 9v inside. Very versatile microphone for a whole bunch of applications.

Re: Best stage pedal for live mandolin

I haven’t exhaustedly used it yet, but I have very positive initial impressions of the Radial AC Driver. Very clean tone, with a mute button, high pass filter, and notch filter for feedback.

Re: Yet another string winder thread

The DíAddario combo string winder/string cutter also has the cross pattern where one works great for wider guitar tuners and the other works great for narrower mandolin tuners.

Re: Good Tone - How long does it actually take?

That sounds like a good, consistent plan.

    Re: Visual Chord Cues?

“Reading” chords from another mandolin will likely always be harder than from a guitar given that the mandolin has a much smaller neck and the fingers are more squished together.
