    Re: Just so excited!!!

I wasn’t sure what spalting was, so I looked it up…slightly rotted is what I learned. I’m surprised that luthiers would use it seeing as it has to affect the structure not just the aesthetic.
  2. Re: Suggestions for types strings and a mandolin

Sorry to hear that you are struggling.
Light strings can reduce finger pressure requirements. Has the mandolin been “set up”? If the action (string heights, bridge height, neck angle) is off, it...

    Holly cow, yes!
Are the models below the custom deluxe not carved tops?

  4. Re: Weber Gallatin Brekke Bridge adjustment?

I had one a long time ago on a dud of a GoldTone…it improved it a bit, but it was a weak mando that could only get a little better.
I have the new traditional Weber bridge on both my mandos, and...
  5. Re: Weber Gallatin Brekke Bridge adjustment?

Consider contacting Vern Brekke, a member here, or Bruce Weber, Montana Lutherie. They made that bridge, not the current Weber company.

    Re: When the expedient

Maybe the photo was to show the profile of the kerf cuts on the board and they needed something to keep the piece in place due to high winds…
I used my wall to hold it in place for this photo196573...

    Re: Mic for onboard use

Very much so. The tonedexter is wonderful after the learning curve and setup. The para is not wonderful :disbelief:

Re: A recent pair of tenor guitars

Do you have any sound samples of your recent works?
Visually stunning, I love the understated, almost stealth looks!
    Happy pickin!
  13. Re: Looking for advice on best mandolins around 5K

One is a listing from 5 years ago, that is a difference other than just the price.
  14. Re: A colascione and a gittern completed recently

Are the sound hole lattices carved or woven? Your work is lovely!
  15. Re: Looking at your hands while playing -- opinions?

If I’m not wearing bifocals I can really see my left hand, so no use looking for me:cool:

Re: Who makes a good Fiddle/Mandolin case?

My recollection is that the Bobelock is not fiberglass in that double case model. It is a plywood much like the guardian.

I know many of the members tire of this referral, but Baggs radius through a Tonedexter is the ultimate plugged in mandolin solution. I just played a brew festival, on a loud pa with lots of stage...

Re: Quality control on Waverly tuners

I have ones from the Bozeman production, and they are nice, I’ll try to get a photo up for comparison. I don’t know if the production was done in Bozeman, perhaps it was just the assembly of parts. ...

Re: Tell me it gets easier.

I rock at the mandolin and stink at the guitar, even though I can read my bandmate’s guitar chords at full speed when we play, even when he capo’s. I have yet to spend any time training my body to...
  21. Re: Mandolin Tasting: Gibsons, Buckeye, Duff, Northfiled

1 and 3 had the special sauce for my ears. Listening on a nice reference system.
All were nice pro quality sounding, not a slouch in the bunch.

    Re: Flat Wound Strings

I’ve used TI flat wound and D’ADDARIO flat tops in the past….of the two I prefer the flat tops. The flat wounds took off to much overtones from my mandolin, the flat tops are very comfortable, and...
